Hi, Anthony! Great post. I do agree, patient decision aids are crucial in proving care to preserve life. Patient decision aids are effective for supporting patients in making health-related decisions for themselves or a family member. Uncertainty and low-
quality health information presented significant challenges for healthcare de
cisions during the pandemic. The COVID-19 vaccination, going to social gath
erings, postponing the examination of new symptoms or the treatment of an
existing medical condition, interacting with others during the pandemic, testi
ng for the virus, where to house elderly patients who are frail, and decisions
about mental healthcare services were among the new choices that patients,
parents, and caregivers had to make (Kiss et al., 2023). Even if this aid was utilized for this patient, I do believe the decision would still be difficult due to
deficient knowledge during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patient involvement can be facilitated and patient participation ca
n be made possible before, during, or after a consultation when there are hig
h-quality patient decision aids available. However, they are not necessary to
deliver effective shared decision-making (National Library of Medicine, 2015).
