What resonates for me as an education professional regarding the influence of politics on local, state, and national curriculum decisions? As I began my reading, I believed that each district had the capability of creating and writing their own curriculum; however, this information is inaccurate. The state and the national government have more input into curriculum decision making then the local (superintendent, principals, and teachers). I do believe the national and state government should have some form of decision making when it comes to the development of the curriculum; however, the national and state government should not have the majority share and decision making. As an educational practitioner, I discovered that No Child Left Behind Act, replaced the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. In 2015, the NCLB was replaced with Every Student Succeeds Act. All three acts served a purpose for each period. Within my school district, there are certain individuals within the curriculum department that enforces the curriculum that has been set by district, state, and national government. These individuals work directly with the curriculum director. There are also teachers that volunteered to be a part of the curriculum team to help improve the curriculum as well as the materials that will be implemented.
