Math Lesson Plans Grade Level Kindergarten Instructional Model Direct Instructional Model Standards Math Standard: CCSS Math.Content.K.G.B.6 Take simple shapes that are small and make larger shapes out of them. Objectives Students will understand How to make larger shapes with and from small shapes. Students will know Names of shapes How form new shapes from small shapes Students will be able to Identify different by sight Identify the name the new large shapes they formed using small shapes Assessment Plan Give out large paper cutouts of different shapes. With the cuts out have the students individually go around the classroom and find the shape of the cutout within the classroom. Then put students in pairs and have them cut out rand shapes from paper. With the cuts out have them work together to try and make new shapes. Summative: By calling out the name of different types of shapes have students hold up the shape. Give each student a handful of plastic shape tiles. With shapes tiles have them recreate a larger scale size of the shape you call out. Procedure 1. Review previously learned material Give each student a handful of plastic shape tiles. With shapes tiles have them recreate a larger scale size of the shape you call out 2. State Objectives of the Lesson Understanding how to make shapes within shapes 3. New Material Read “Shapes, Shapes, Shapes” by Tana Hoban. On Chart paper pad or white board or smart board draw two of the same shape. Have students name the shape and number is sides it has.
Show student how with two of the same shape can create a new shape. Do multiple examples using different shapes 4. Guided practice . Give each student a handful of plastic shape tiles. With shapes tiles have them recreate a larger scale size of the shape you call out Give hand out of drawn shape. Have students use the small shape pieces to fill I the drawn shape on the hand given to them. Putting them in groups will allow kids to work on multiple shapes at a time and have more piece shapes to use. 5. Independent practice Have every student drawn a picture on a full size sheet of paper using shapes. Once they have the picture have them each fill in the picture with shape tiles. This will show the students how shapes are useful in realty and the world to make real things and objects. . Grade Level Kindergarten Instructional Model – Concept Learning Model – teachers modeling for teachers. Creating concepts that will work best with in the minds of minds of student to learn. Standards CCSS.Math.Content.K.MD. A.2 Taking two objects and finding out the commons and differences between the two using the terms “More of a” and “Less (blank)“ Objectives Students will understand Multiple ways of measurement in length using Students will know How to measure Math Vocab- short, long, high, and wide Students will be able to State difference’s and similarities between two more objects using the taught and

learned vocab Assessment Plan Formative- Ask student to express their own meaning of each vocab word. What and how they are using with measurement. Summative Give each a student a popsicle sticks or straw or any straight edge object without any measurements on it and a worksheet. On the worksheet will be listed items in the class they should go a measure. With each item listed on the sheet have word selections for them to mark based on the object. Long, short, tall, wide Procedure 1. Make a word association list using the word MEASURMENT Whiles watching a movie about tall, short, big and little have the children list the items that are said in the movie associated with each measurement. After completing the work sheet and watching the film have a blank space on the sheet and have the students write a down the name the something and state its statue of measurement. 2. With the worksheet done and complete. Put the kids in groups and each group work together to groups that are alike in another way besides just the way it measures. Using a chalk board, felt or magnet board that is divided in to two halves. One side taller the other shorter Have the students one at a time grab picture of something place it on the side they believe the object will stand next to me(teacher) 3. Categorize the groups by specific definition Using building blocks, mega blocks, Lego’s etc. have the student build a building. Then have the students walk around every structure and compare the structure to themselves. 4.Regroup the items individually Group students into pair and have each group categorize pictures based on four categories 5. Put together all the information and summarize the data Within a class discussion including the teacher; discuss the differences between to subjects(objects). Have students choose random item (physically in the class or a picture of the object) and explain the difference between them.
Grade Level Kindergarten Instructional Model – Concept Learning Model – teachers modeling for teachers .Creating concepts that will work best with in the minds of minds of student to learn. Standards- CCSS.Math.Content.K.G.A.1 Objectives Students will understand Area in shapes and objects Students will know How the area of an object determines the area of the next object Shape and area Students will be able to Use vocab words such as Over, Under, Next to, In front of, Inside and Outside Describe where an object or shape is located using the taught vocab Assessment Plan ‘Over , Under, &Through” by Tana Hoban read it and question kids during the reading . Summative: Give out plastic cut out shapes of different color and size. Ask students to place them randomly with the room using the taught vocab words. Procedure 1. Pretest Knowledge of the content. Draw a car and with a dog sitting over the roof of the car. Draw a person sitting inside the car waving his/her hand outside the widow. Remind students that they learning new word to help describe or state where an object may be located. Give another example 2. Continue to discuss spelling and meanings of words Ask students to define their own means and definition of the vocab words Read book by Tana Hoban Go over key word from the book and ask students to provide an example using the vocab words
3. Patterns of Meaning Explain and define each vocab word Using a smart board or a computer with projector pull up pictures demonstrating each vocab If using a SMART board have student come up one at a time and demonstrating the action of one of the vocab words 4. Read and Study Ask students where certain objects within the classroom. Have them describe where exactly the object is located using the taught vocab 5. Evaluate Using worksheets with a a drawing of table, house, car etc. have students draw an object write in basic sentence structure tell me where the object is located with the picture. Rationale Introduction: All three of these lesson where designed to teach students the many types of shapes, the types of measurements, and the many ways we can measure objects and shapes. This opens the children’s mind to an interests in math, design and architecture. Rationale for Selection of Instructional Model: The model was chosen to help the development and understand measurements Knowing and understanding the unit of measurements and measurement will be better understood by 1 st grade. These lessons were introduction lesson to measurement. Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners: This concept helps learners get in the habit of working with a partner and in groups. Special needs students and regular students get the meaning of the vocabulary words. These lessons provide student to connection inside and outside the classroom using what they have learned with measuring and measurements.

Assessment and Accountability: Assessments allow the students to focus and completely understand the concepts of measurements. As a teacher the assessments provide me with feedback on how the students individually and as a whole are grasping the information. Using the tools taught to then correctly. Evaluation Plan: Using the assessments will help me as the teacher see if what I have planned for and taught is being processed and absorbed by the students. This will also help me see anything I need to change and or modify for next time. Conclusion: These lesson plans have been designed for all types of learned. The instructional schemes are used in many different areas of teaching and learning environments, both inside and outside the classroom. These may be challenging to some students when looking for answers, or ask questions but by taking guesses and asking for help or general questions the students will learn from their mistakes, and have opportunities to talk to me as the teacher and with their classmates exchanging ideas and concepts. The learning assessment is done for a both student and teacher. Providing for the teacher an understanding of what the students have learned throughout and from the lessons taught. The assessment where to provide a review to for the students what was taught to them how well they know the material. With that; the appropriate feedback can be suggested to the students for them to achieve a success with the lesson taught to them.
As a learner myself I am a very hand on learner. I am and was a visual learner. Being a hands on learner allowed me to be very creative. In a classroom setting and environment I can use my creativity to help students stay interested and focused in what they are learning. As I teacher I can then constantly come up with new ways of teaching different lessons. My weakness is knowing which lesson plan suites my way of thinking would suit my way of learning if I was in my student’s shoes. Having to constantly come up with new ways to reach my students interest and potential in every lesson I give may eventually get me lost in making sure they are learning the primary material and information needed to be taught and grasped. When kids are learned it’s much easier for them to relate and understand the material that I am/ would be teaching them. Taking this course has provided me with many ways of formatting and forming lesson plans for students. I now understand what teachers and specifically the head teachers I work with go through on a daily or weekly basis to make sure all students are learning and processing what is being taught to them. I have been and introduced exposed to what exactly goes into creating a lesson plan. The education system and the world of teaching is constantly changing. It is important to continue learned way after I am done with my degree. Part of being a teacher today means keeping up with the world inside and outside the classroom by receiving the best of the best education from a teacher year and year students are given a ticket to a great adult life and future or many possibilities and adventures. The world of education is an evolution of many and different types of learners and teachers.
