MAT 133: Intro to Statistical Analysis

The specific focus of the research is about how they can use this academic support aka
tutoring with these norwegian foster youth. This was observed during a year of tutoring foster
youth to identify if academic intervention would be successful among those in the test pool being
foster care. The effects were longer lasting and had a life altering impact on the youth in the
study/focus group.
From my understanding of the article, the community wanted to find a way
on how to engage with this specific part of the community in addition to seeing how the youth
can be supported within an academic setting/ under the topic of academia. This was done with
the help of professionals in the field that work with those youth or that population on a regular
basis.
The study focused on this to acknowledge an at risk population that was struggling and to
see how to help that community thrive once again. From my understanding, this article focused
on the academic side of this community and finding where the community needs more support in
regards to academics. The purpose of the study was to see if additional academic support, AKA
tutoring, would benefit these foster youth. They trained the participants on how to implement the
academic support with the children in the CWS and implemented it for a year before analyzing
the results.
The population was 24 practitioners and supervisors from three Norwegian Child Welfare
Services. One CWS was located in a dense urban area with a population of predominantly low-
to medium socioeconomic status (SES) and an above average percentage of ethnic minorities,
and the second and third in a suburban area with a range of low to high SES population.
