Question
(20 points)
This assignment is marked out of 20 but is worth 7.5% of the subject assessment
The diagram below is a sketch plan showing a level run between two Bench Marks. The number
written along each line is the staff reading observed to that point. Each point is identified by a letter
and a brief description.
Book and reduce the levels using the booking sheet provided (on next page). Each point must be
identified by its letter. It is not necessary to use the description, as this is to help you picture the
site. Please type the readings and your calculations into the answer word document (on next page).
(You may print the answer document, fill it in by hand then scan and submit the scanned copy if
you prefer.)
Having reduced the levels, show the misclose of the level run.
Using your calculated RLs, answer the question, giving your answer in metres, about the difference
in height between the points nominated and also calculate the grade between the two points
nominated. Then, make a brief comment about the quality of the readings and your confidence in your
calculations.
Please write your name and student number on the first page and on the answer sheet. Submission
without name and student number will not be marked. You will need to submit the saved MS Word
document or PDF file in Canvas for marking.

What is the misclose of this level run? Difference=12.360-12.340=0.02m
Point U is 18.100-10.574=7.526 metres ABOVE the starting BM.
The horizontal distance between points F and D is 35.0m. What is the grade from F to D in %? (12.961-11.185)/35=0.051 which is 5.1%
Briefly comment on your level of confidence about the quality of the observations and the accuracy of the calculations.
Comment on the quality of the observations The Misclose of the Level is 0.02m=20mm which the allowable misclose is 5
√
3
=8.66mm so that the quality of the observations needs to improve and ensure the misclose less than the 8.66mm.
o
Comments on the accuracy of the calculations
The accuracy of the calculations has been double checked and all dataset‘s calculations are accurate.
