The professor asks the registrar to randomly select a group of 2000 students. Each of these students is sent the survey which has 10 statements. The students are instructed to respond to each statement with one of the following: Strongly agree, Agree, Neither agree nor disagree, Disagree, or Strongly disagree. a) Determine whether this study corresponds to an observational study or an experiment. This study is an observational study b) Are these responses qualitative or quantitative? quantitative c) Determine which of the four levels of measurement is most appropriate for these responses. Ordinal because you can rank if someone’s agrees or disagrees d) Identify the population of this study. The population of this study would be all student e) Identify the sample of this study. The sample would be the 2000 students randomly selected f) Identify the sampling method. Random Sample g) Is this sample likely to be representative of the population? Explain your answer. It depends on what the population of students is. If the sample consist of most of the population of students that we can infer that the sample represents the population. We can use the students answers to determine how they feel about the importance of statics in everyday life as a representation of the sample size. 2.
