Content and summary of activity:
(You may
complete in word or by hand)
In this session, I incorporated math journaling into our daily routine. I provided the children with
opportunities to document their mathematical discoveries, problem-solving strategies, and
reasoning processes. We engaged in ongoing collaborative thought by discussing and expanding
on the ideas presented in the math journals.

How did the activity go overall?
The activity went well overall. The children embraced the opportunity to express themselves
through math journaling, and they enjoyed listening to each other's ideas during our group
discussions.
What went particularly well?
The children demonstrated creativity and curiosity in their journal entries, exploring
various mathematical concepts.
The open-ended nature of the activity allowed for a wide range of mathematical topics to
be explored.
Group discussions were rich in dialogue, with children asking each other thought-
provoking questions.
What went not so well?
Some children found it challenging to articulate their thoughts on paper, which
occasionally led to frustration.
Time management was a concern, as it was important to balance journaling time with
group discussions.
What would you do differently next time?
To address the challenge of articulation, I would provide more scaffolding and support,
such as sentence starters or graphic organizers, to help children express their ideas in
writing.
I would plan for more structured time management to ensure that both journaling and
group discussions receive adequate attention.
What feedback or actions did your mentor give or suggest to you?
My mentor provided positive feedback on the creativity and engagement of the children in the
math journaling activity. They suggested incorporating more visual aids to assist children in
expressing their ideas and managing time more effectively to ensure a balance between individual
reflection and group dialogue.
Remember that this should be a
valuable reflective practice
, and demonstrate that you can identify
areas for your own development, as well as improvements that have already been made in your
performance. This should be completed in
every
instance and you should provide approx.175 words.
You must ensure that this is signed by your mentor / supervisor and uploaded to the portfolio
system.
