1 Week 4 - Mid-Course Reflection Carlos Stakely University of Phoenix ORG/726: The Impact of Technology on Organizations Dr. Jamie Birdwell February 12, 2024
2 Over the past four weeks, my journey as a scholar, practitioner, and leader has been enriched with new insights and perspectives. The topics from Weeks 1-4 have significantly impacted my thought processes, personal development, and professional disposition. In this reflective and applied statement, I will elaborate on what I have learned, how it has changed my thinking, and how it will influence my behavior and approach to these topics. One of the key lessons I have learned during these past four weeks is how data and information drive innovation and how technology enables the optimal use of organizational assets. Data allows organizations to measure the effectiveness of a given strategy: When strategies are put into place to overcome a challenge, collecting data will allow executive leadership to determine how well their solution is performing, and whether the organizational approach needs to be tweaked or changed over the long-term. This realization has shifted my thinking towards a more proactive and future-oriented mindset. I now understand the need to anticipate changes and be prepared to pivot strategies and approaches when necessary. Additionally, I have gained a deeper appreciation for the role of innovation and technology responsibility in executive leadership and decision-making. Exploring innovative dilemmas and technological case studies has highlighted the complexities of real-world situations and the innovative considerations which leaders must navigate. This learning has reinforced the importance of data and innovative principles in my leadership approach and decision-making process. The discussions on innovation and technology being used in organizational development were particularly enlightening. I have come to recognize the profound impact of how technology and innovation allow companies to remain competitive. Advancement requires an atmosphere of acceptance toward innovation. This allows people to think outside of the normal parameters,
3 experiment, and discover new ideas which will benefit company performance and employee culture. Innovative ideas and knowledge can be passed on to employees and ensure the new concepts are accepted and possibly used to create further innovations and advancements. This knowledge has changed my thinking by reinforcing the belief that fostering an innovative and technological environment is a strategic improvement for organizations. Moreover, our classroom discussions on business intelligence (BI) and data analytics have been enlightening. These past four weeks have reiterated how business intelligence describes the strategies, technologies, and tools which companies use to obtain business information (El-Adaileh et al.,2019). This method also describes the information itself. Data analytics is the technical process through which we obtain actionable insights from raw data (Foster et al.,2019). I learned this is one tool within BI. I now understand Business Intelligence and Analytics is not just a good career; it can be a great one! Our classroom discussions made me realize that in today's data-driven world, the demand for professionals who can turn raw data into actionable insights is higher than ever before. In terms of my behavior and approach, the learning from these weeks will have a profound influence on my professional life. I plan to incorporate a continuous and innovative learning mindset into my daily routine, actively seeking out new knowledge and staying informed about emerging technological trends and challenges. I also intend to integrate green information technology (Green IT) considerations into my decision-making processes, because this method aims to minimize the effects of the technology space on global emissions to combat climate change (Enayah et al.,2019). Regarding organizational decision making and the role of technology, I will strive to be a more technology-assisted decision-making leader who can provide significant benefits, including improved efficiency, better decision-making, and evolve as

4 an innovative executive leader. This means actively promoting innovation in my professional life and implementing technology tools for organizational decision-making. In conclusion, the learning from Weeks 1-4 has been transformative in terms of my thought processes, personal development, and professional disposition. I am now more committed to driving innovation and technology in terms of organizational development as core principles in my leadership journey. I plan to be an advocate for green information technology (Green IT) to make sure information technology services and equipment are more eco-friendly to reduce the impact of business on the environment and maintain a healthy planet. This newfound knowledge will shape my behavior and approach, making me a more effective and responsible scholar, practitioner, and leader.
