Organizational culture is created by a variety of factors. This weeks readings will provide insight on organizations create culture and how culture change occurs.   When you consider organizational culture, what type of company do you feel you fit best in?   What type of organizational culture would be a misfit for you? In your past work experience, were there any moments when you felt that you did not fit in? Why? I feel I fit best in an oriented organizational culture. I feel teamwork is encouraged in this type of culture. People work together, regardless of what position they hold in the company. In this culture people can motivate each other. They can encourage one another to reach their goals. I find this type of culture one that is energetic for me. I do so much better in this environment. I feel an organizational culture that would be a misfit for me would be a stable organization culture. For me, I find these cultures to be ones that focus on policies and procedures instead of the employees. I understand the policies and procedures are important, however, so are the employees. If there aren’t employees then the policies and procedures do not matter because there is no one to follow them. I find a company needs to take care of the employees and the employees will take care of the company in return. I worked at Intel previously. I worked in a fabrication area that could not contain any dust what-so- ever because the dust would ruin the computer chips being made. This meant that an employee had to go through certain steps to ensure they were not contaminating the manufacturing areas. If a person needed to go to the bathroom it was a huge hassle. It literally took about 40 minutes to leave the area, go to the bathroom and then re-enter the area. I had to ask permission to go to the bathroom. I don’t feel as an adult I need to ask permission to go at any work place. I quit within a month of working there. It was the worst job I have ever had in my life. I'm all for following rules, policies and procedures but it shouldn't be what an organization should focus on to achieve goals. An organization should be looking out for the future of the employees and the best fit that each employee could bring to the organization. In any company or organization, it's the
employees that keep the organization going and moving forward in the future. Some organizations only focus on the numbers and what will drive the company to the top in the future. Then there's other organizations that keep employees in mind with bonuses and incentives for accomplishments.  less
