Below here is a discussion and 3 peer responses due sept 16th “Thorough use of materials ” is required in your initial posting, this means more than one or two intext citations! Also, this goes above simply restating terms from the eBook and citing them; the discussion instructions state; “Explain 'why' with supporting evidence and concepts from the course materials. Include in-text citations and associated references in a reference list. Use of the course materials is required.” Also note that for your secondary responses, you’re required to utilize course material (our eBook) in all
responses to your classmates and again “Explain the 'why and how' with supporting evidence and concepts from the course materials. Include in-text citations and associated reference within a reference list. Use of the course materials is required.” For the discussions this week, we’re exploring leadership Give at least one example of the following types of leaders. Explain what traits they exhibit that support the leadership style. transformational; transactional; or narcissistic. Go back to the business that you described in Week 4. Please describe autocratic/authoritarian; style leadership for foriegn travel business. Be sure to base your initial post and responses on course materials, using APA citations in every post Please be thorough in your discussions, for example you are required to explain what traits are exhibited by your examples of leaders in each of three styles of leadership. Don't simply state that “Jeff Bezos is a narcissistic leader because the only thinks of himself and yells at everybody at meetings!” Remember that thorough use of course material is a requirement here so please make sure you are reading through the classroom material, providing citations and references indicating that you are gleaning information from those sources.References Burgemeester, A. Western Governors University. (2020, August 10). A Guide to Transformational Leadership. Western Governors University. https://www.wgu.edu/blog/guide-transformational-leadership2008.html#close Due spet. 19 peer response: Transformational leaders seek to inspire change within current organizational structures and create visions for near- and long-term goals. This leads to enhanced communication and investment of personnel while supporting the creation of strong teams and corporate structures. (UMGC, 2023). John D. Rockefeller transformed the oil and gas industry by investing and developing kerosene while reducing the reliance on whaling. (Moran, 2020). He focused on employee care and satisfaction such as positive feedback, rest and recuperation through balance work cycles and paid vacations. These benefits and changes to the current work culture generated invested and committed employees to his organization and strategic goals. (Loborec & Weber, 2015). Transactional leadership emphasizes a results-based approach to application. They do not look to change systems or processes; rather, they focus on incentivizing specific performance and goals through the use of positive or negative reinforcement. (UMGC, 2023). General Norman Schwarzkopf demonstrated an effective use of this style of leadership in his execution of Operation Desert Storm. As a military commander tasked with managing and directing joint coalition forces, he valued group performance and compliance to operational command structures. This allowed him to direct a successful campaign against Iraqi forces while synchronizing efforts of over ten allied nation forces. (IvyPanda, 2020). Narcissistic leadership is a high-risk gamble of bold innovation and success or destructive team-crushing results. These leaders can push through revolutionary changes to ineffective or weak organizations with their strong egos and desire to seek “greater glory” as it were. (UMGC, 2023). Successful examples of this include Elon Musk with his SpaceX and Tesla corporations leading industry level changes and innovation. However, there are many negative results of this as well. To play counter to General Norman Schwarzkopf, Saddam Hussein represents a shining example of the negative results narcissistic leadership plays. His self-perceived vision as an invincible figure to the destiny of Iraq drove him to develop and “father” what he saw to be the modern Iraq. This pursuit of vision was enforced with brutal human right violations, fearmongering and state media propaganda. He was so driven by his pursuit of results; he cared little for the cost at which he gained them. (Burgemeester, 2023). After evaluating my business vision from Week 4, I decided that utilizing a participative/democratic style of leadership would be most effective. The business structure would be built around a partnership structure, likely falling into an LLC or LLP. As the owner/leader of this organization, my success would be largely driven off of the efforts I put in and teamwork of my partners. This means engagement and dedication are key, in expressing a vision and goals to discuss and decide how to best implement with my team. Whether my partners are directly active in the organization with me or merely invested in the background, I need to ensure their interests and decisions are valued and accounted for when moving the company forward. (UMGC, 2023).

A transformational leadership is a style that can inspire positive change within individuals and organizations. People like Oprah Winfrey and Martin Luther King Jr. hold this leadership. They helped people through inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individual consideration, and being an idealized influence. These leaders not only enhance the morale of their followers but also instill a deep sense of pride in the organization they lead. Transformational leadership is the way to go if you want to be a successful leader (Cornell, D., 2023; Drew, C., 2023). Transactional leadership stresses structure and order. This style is displayed by individuals in structured environments like military leaders, coaches, and directors. Extremely effective with self-motivated individuals, this leadership tends to be less effective in environments that emphasize individualistic creativity, such as art studios, fashion design, or architecture. Traits for this style highlight discipline, routine, consistency, and a merit-based reward system (St. Thomas University Online, 2014) due sept. 19 Peer Response Narcissistic leadership is held by leaders who are unyieldingly committed to their vision, typically impervious to outside critique or suggestions. An example of this is Steve Jobs. Though idealized for his visions, coworkers often found him firmly narrow-minded, overlooking other people's viewpoints. That being said, his leadership enabled him to manifest his innovations. Key traits of narcissistic leadership encompass a tendency for admiration, grand visions, and a preference for self- reliance (Moyer, J., 2015; Y Scouts.) Looking back on week 4, I believe a participative/democratic leadership style would benefit my business. This method will help me create a more cooperative and inclusive work environment. I like the respect part of this leadership. I firmly believe respect begets respect. Given the international aspect of my venture, active collaboration and feedback from my team are essential to navigating the Asian market. Effective leadership requires a deep knowledge of one's team and cultivating trust. When I venture into the Japanese market, the cultural insight of my Japanese team members will be critical. Their insights will help shape my strategic direction. They are more instrumental than talks with board members or investors who know little about what happens at the lower level of my business (St. Thomas University Online, 2014) due date sept. 19 3rd peer review: A transformational leader is an individual who seeks to promote positive change for other individuals, companies, and organizations even if it is not in their own self- interest (Goff-Dupont, 2021). There are many characteristics that come with a transformational leader to include Charisma, a strong vision, open mind, flexible approach, and trust. A transformational leader is known to challenge their employees to improve their work and take great ownership (UMGC, 2023). Steve Jobs the creator of Apple Inc., is a great example of a transformational leader. Steve Jobs used his leadership to improve his products, his organizational structure, and job satisfaction (Western Governors
University, 2020). He has been known to be one of the most encouraging employers, because he constantly challenged his vision for his company and his employees to make a change for the better. A transactional leader is a goal-oriented individual that is organized, structured, and likes to be in order (Asana, 2022). A transactional leader has many characteristics to include resistance to change, performance oriented, and short-term goals (Transactional Leaders: Examples & Definition | Vaia, n.d.). Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft, is a great example of a transactional leader because he is focused on rules and hard work bringing success. When Gates started Microsoft, his employees had little freedom and were under strict rules while working (Staff, 2023). A narcissistic leader is typically an entitled individual that is focused on themselves. There are many traits that are easily seen in a narcissistic leader such as a lack of empathy, exploit their followers, and self-absorbed (Patricia, 2022). Kim Jong-un North Korea’s supreme lease is an excellent example of a narcissistic leader. He was named one of the top 13 narcissists in the past and present as of 2021 (Patricia, 2021). Kim Jon-un is known widely for his lack of empathy and being an over controlling leader who disrespects his followers. Looking back at my previous discussion I believe that democratic leadership would best suit my company. Democratic leaders can still stay in some control while also allowing their employees to have some say in decision-making process (Myers, 2022). I prefer a sole proprietorship business where I have complete control over the business, but I understand thar from time to time I will need help with my business. I think a democratic would be great would be great because I could still have complete control, while allowing my employees to put in their creative input to help with the business. Allowing my employees to provide input in the business is great because I want my business to be a creative and open environment for all my customers. If I am not there every day and I have employees that are present every day, then their input would greatly benefit the business if they were recommending any changes. 4fourth peer response: A transformational leader is a leader who inspires and motivates their followers to surpass their own expectations and produce amazing results. This type of leadership is characterized by the capacity of the leader to forge a compelling vision for the future, to successfully communicate that vision, and to enable their team members to work together to realize that vision. Transformational leaders support the success of all employees while being passionate about their work and the company's objective (Needle, 2021). Because of what they bring to a group, an organization, or a community, transformational leaders are frequently hailed as moral role models (UMGC, n.d.). Barack Obama exemplifies the traits of a transformational leader. In addition to his unifying, inspiring, and upbeat communication style, the former American President was renowned for his revolutionary approach to leading his administration (Cherry, 2023). Obama has a special gift for moving people to tears during speeches, and he has shown a commitment to appreciating and meeting the particular requirements of
distinct groups. Obama's leadership style was heavily influenced by his charisma. During his presidency, he promoted cooperation and diplomatic connections by using his charm to establish relationships with national and international leaders. Managerial leadership, usually referred to as transactional leadership, emphasizes organization, performance, and oversight (UMGC, n.d.). The goal of transactional leaders is to keep their organizations running smoothly and efficiently. They employ an organized process to accomplish particular goals, set clear expectations, recognize achievement, and reward it. The organizations' objectives and assignments are very well defined, and members receive praise when they succeed in meeting their objectives and criticism when they miss deadlines. Transactional leadership is effective in circumstances when established protocols, consistency, and routine performance are essential. Former Apple CEP Tim Cooks exemplifies transactional leadership qualities. When Cook joined Apple, he implemented a strategy known as "time based competition," which emphasizes time as the most significant aspect in the design, production, and marketing of products to consumer (Galloway, 2013). He also established performance- based bonuses and incentive programs to motivate staff to hit goals. Focus on one's own advancement, an overwhelming need for admiration, and a lack of compassion for others are traits of narcissistic leaders. Narcissistic leaders typically harm their followers' emotions through their acts and demeanor and intimidate them by responding poorly to criticism. These leaders are notorious for prioritizing their own interests over those of subordinates or group members (UMGC, n.d.). CEOs who are narcissistic have a dark side that gradually emerges over time. They are distinct from the charismatic, "transformational" leaders they are frequently mistaken for due to their exploitative, self-centered actions (Butts, 2020). Donald Trump is a good example of one such leader. Throughout his administration, Donald Trump was notorious for pushing his business and personal causes, frequently taking use of the position to advance his own interests. Leaders that have narcissistic tendencies take advantage of others. Trump has exploited his position to further his own interests, including promoting his businesses while in government and gaining from his political connections. Trump demanded absolute loyalty and obedience from his employees, and he frequently responded to dissent or disagreement with public rebukes or dismissals. Inclusivity is the key to participatory leadership. It's a leadership style where team members are involved in the decision-making process in addition to the leader. They encourage open dialogue and value everyone's feedback (Khan, 2023). As a business owner, this is the type of leadership that will be most effective in my business. This type of leadership will be helpful in promoting a shared decision-making culture where employees' various backgrounds, skills, and viewpoints help to improve problem-solving and customer solutions. This will allow team members to be more invested in the process as their opinions are heard and valued (UMGC, n.d.). References
