Diversity Lens
The subject of diversity under discussion is race. Black people face racial profiling, which is anything that targets a person for closer examination or special treatment based not on a
legitimate suspicion but instead on preconceived notions about their ethnic background, race, ancestral lineage, belief system, or country of origin (Ontario Human Rights Commission, 2022).
Black Lives Matter, a group that fights for the civil rights of Black people whom the brutality of police enforcement has victimized, is being supported by the event, making the race subject very evident. The matter is being discussed in the context of a significant assembly of enraged black people. The community intended to ensure that intersections of many groups came together to work in solidarity against anti-Blackness. The law prohibits discrimination through racism (Human Rights 101, 2014). In a YouTube video by the chief commissioner for the Ontario Human Rights Commission, she says that the commission is ready to deal with racism and discrimination that still exists (Renu Mandhane: Human Rights 101, n.d.). Therefore, the community was within its rights to attend the demonstration and stay for as long as they felt like it and until they were heard. However, the matter makes the cop uncomfortable, so he shows his displeasure by saying he has had enough. The policeman is irritated because he is not familiar with being in the same place with so many enraged Black people.
Furthermore, he is not used to hearing comments hostile to law enforcement officers. The
reason is that he is not used to being in situations in which he is not in charge. This situation exemplifies how ethnic backgrounds or racial identities could influence how individuals engage with each other. It may also impact how individuals emotionally respond to certain conditions.

The attending officer's perspective may differ from the community member's, thus rendering it challenging for him to comprehend the latter's circumstances. This is one of the officers' difficulties in such a situation. It's also likely that he is unaware of the events reported to
the police regarding the matter. The person who took the call may need to become more familiar with operating in an environment where many furious people of color are present. This situation is one of his strategies for maintaining order in the case. Furthermore, he finds this activity strange because he is not used to receiving interactions criticizing the police. The officer's remark is an excellent example of how racial differences may affect how individuals interact.
Diversity is the existence of a broad spectrum of human characteristics and traits within a
person, a group, or an association. It encompasses a range of factors, including age, gender, race,
ethnic origin, aptitude for physical and mental work, sexual orientation, religion, and level of education and experience
(
Ontario Human Rights Commission, 2022). The diversity lens helps in
understanding the various diverse aspects. Before being trained to view the world through a "Diversity Lens," I would not have been aware of the potential difficulties the police officer might have encountered while empathizing with community members. I would have seen the officer's remark as unpleasant if I had understood the reasons behind such thoughts. However, by
looking at the incident from the perspective of diversity, I could know how the officer's race influenced how he handled the matter and how it could have made it harder for him to sympathize with the affected community. I could comprehend his actions and those of the community members by applying a diversity-focused perspective.
Given that the officer is now in the process of creating a "Diversity Lens," he would likely continue with his duties by attempting to understand the perspective of the community members. The view is that the community wanted a safe space for black people. The district also

wanted to feel like it had been heard, and the brutality against them would be looked into, and possible measures to curb the brutality would be implemented. Therefore, the officer may attempt to understand the cause or justifications why the police have been notified of the situation. He could also examine how racial differences affect the dynamics of interpersonal interactions. In addition, the officer needs to consider doing his duties while interacting with neighborhood people with more cautious behavior. He should be more understanding and tolerant of others in his interactions with them.
