2. If Mary follows the strategy of CROC Ltd in getting her staff to move, what strategy will she be adopting?
Select an option from below and add your justification.
a)
Participation and involvement
b)
Facilitation and support
c)
Negotiation and agreement
d)
Manipulation and co-optation
e)
Explicit or implicit coercion
The correct answer is c.
Negotiation and agreement.
Marry will be adopting the Negotiation and Agreement strategy this negotiation has proved her to be a good deal by providing an incentive to employees and they agreed to move with her.
The other options are incorrect because:
Participation and involvement strategy include positive opportunity creation for employees with their better involvement.
Facilitation and support strategy resist changes but being supportive.
Manipulation and co-optation strategy involves twisting facts to make them attractive.
Explicit or implicit coercion strategy involves acceptance of changes by employees because resistance will cost them loss.
a)
Using the rational decision-making model, assess Mary’s decision in a rational way, and provide a justified, final decision selection. To clarify further, you must go through these steps (in the rational decision-making model) and make a final decision, justifying each step as you go through, and coming up with a final decision as if you were Mary. b)
Explain how cognitive dissonance may come into effect. What may trigger it? What are the likely consequences?
c)
What role would intuition play in Mary’s decision-making process, and would she use it to make decisions in this case?

If Mary decides not to take the deal, she will keep her staff and her office in Adelaide, but she
may lose the business she was getting from all of the WPMC businesses. This could mean a
loss of 40% of her current business. It refers to the mental conflict that occurs when a
person's behaviours and beliefs do not align. It may also happen when a person holds two
beliefs that contradict one another. Cognitive dissonance causes feelings of unease and
tension, and people attempt to relieve this discomfort in different ways, Mary is also
considering offering incentives to her staff. She feels 60% certain that a majority of her staff
will move for the right money. She heard of a similar situation with CROC Ltd – a company
which was involved in the maintenance of logging and timber-milling equipment. They
offered their staff incentives such as free housing and 50% salary loadings, and this company,
she heard, was able to take almost half of the staff with them.
c) role would intuition play in Mary’s decision-making process
The Mary feels role would intuition play in Mary’s decision-making process responsible for
the well-being of her staff. As a result of this, her staff hold a strong affinity for her and a
reciprocal desire not to let her down.
