Social Media Who is on social media? Everyone uses social media for something, whether it is to stay on contact with friends and family, maybe to sell something, or to look for employment. Some even use it as a source to vent or record activities or events that are happening. Juveniles are influenced by things that they see on social media. What purposes do people use social media? Communication is the main reason that social media is used, juveniles use social media mainly for their friends. Investigators and the courts use social media differently, they use it to get evidence for a crime that was committed, whether someone harasses another, stalking, or bullying. People are so free with posting everything that goes on in the world, they tend to incriminate themselves.
ACTIVE LISTENING Who should use active listening? Everyone should use active listening; Law Enforcement, courts, and public officials. Active listening should be used because it shows positive interaction, especially with juveniles. When listening to it gains trust and respect, and gives a better understanding, It also eliminates misunderstandings that may occur, with juveniles you want to be clear and concise.
Cultural Awareness Why is cultural awareness important? Cultural Awareness shows the community that law enforcement does not single out cultures. Outreach coordinators in diverse cultural communities show that there is a positive presence; allow them to know that they are not forgotten about just because they are a diverse community. When communicating with a diverse community, you have to be aware of how to communicate with them, you do not want to come across as racial or inconsiderate. Recognizing the beliefs and values of different cultures shows empathy and that you care about the community, which creates a positive
