Risk 1: Physical Security
With this being a physical location I chose physical security as a significant risk, especially being
that the assets are housed in the store, with employees and customers. The risk is apparent when there are disruptions or malfunctions in security equipment such as video cameras or alarms. This also includes any security protocols or measures that are not properly followed. I decided to
categorize the risk as Security due to it being directly related to the security of the store and assets. The likelihood of a security issue occurring is moderate due to 50/50 chance of security equipment malfunctioning. The impact of the risk if it becomes an issue is high as it can directly impact the asset that the store uses to gain revenue. The store could experience an event such as theft, loss of assets, and customer and store information being exposed via the safe and or POS computer. Next we multiplied the likelihood of the risk occurring by the impact of the risk and found that the PI score resulted in high. Failure to address physical security risk could lead to severe consequences such as compromised safety and financial loss. This risk must be addressed to avoid potential impact to business. Mitigation involves implementing regularly scheduled maintenance of all security devices and backup generators in the event of an outage. Signs of alarms malfunctioning, or breaches or inability to access video camera footage are strong indicators for implementing a response plan. Implementing these security measures is expected to improve security, and protect assets, ensuring the safety of employees as well as customers.
Risk 2: Safety
I chose safety as the 2
nd
significant risk due to the employees safety being a vital need for a successful business operation. The employees safety risk involve possible exposure to chemical hazards and operating equipment. This could be incidents that actually occurred or even incidents considered as close calls. This risk was categorized as a Health/Safety risk due to its potential impact on the well-being of an employee. Which could also impact business operations.
The likelihood of a safety incident is moderate considering the business is a plant shop, and not something that requires to much physical labor or task that could be risky. The impact of a safety
incident occurring is also moderate due to potential injuries, legal liabilities, or financial loss. I multiplied the likelihood by the impact and found that the risk was moderate which still warrants some form of attention. Failure to address this risk could result in on-the-job injuries, legal issues, and staff shortage. Mitigating this risk involves regularly scheduled safety trainings, requiring protective gear when operating the forklit and ladder and addressing safety concerns even if an incident has not occurred. Safety incidents, near misses, and/or safety violations would
warrant implementing a response plan. Implementing these safety measures is expected to minimize accidents, enhance employee well-being, ensure compliance is met, and protect the overall business.
