The file transfer protocol is a standard communication protocol used for the transfer of computer files from a server tp a client on a computer. The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) which uses port 21. FTP was not built ot be secure, is generally an insercure protocol. IT relys mostly on clear text usernames and password for authentication and doesn’t use encryption. Information sent over FTP is vulnerable to sniffing, spoofing, and brute force attacks, to name a few. There is a alterniative to FTP and that is SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) which is in port 22. It is a better alternative to FTp. It is far more secure than FTP. It creates an encryption data stream between the client and the server. This means data sent between those are encoded. What alternative protocol would you implement instead of FTP? 1. SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) It provides far better security than FTP by creating an encrypted data stream between the client and server, meaning data sent between them is encoded. 2. What port does this new protocol listen on? 1. Port 22 I agree with you. I understand things aren’t going to be secure, but to build something with the intention of it not being secure doesn’t seem like it’s smart to me. During my reading I felt like they realized the mess up and started over and created SFTP to replace it. Someone must have realized the mess up in building something that isn’t secure and rebuilt it. Thanks for the information I found this very interesting. Sdfsadfgasdfsda
