Chapter 10 Discussion: Identity Theft What steps should you take to prevent identity theft? How have you implemented these in your activities? Are there other things you should be doing? Has identity theft happened to you or someone you know? If so, describe what happened.
Some steps you can prevent the identity theft is monitoring your bank and credit card statements and carefully check each charge each month, check your account online between statements and set up alerts for charges that exceed a certain amount or are used outside of your home, monitor your credit report and you are entitled to one free credit report per year from each of the three major reporting companies, if you suspect you might be a victim of identity theft and immediately place a fraud alert on your credit reports, and protect your personal information and be smart about the information you share and with whom you share it. One of the major things I have implemented in my own activities is creating an online banking account. With this account, I have an app on my phone where I get notifications whenever my card is used. I have loved having this on my phone, since I can check how much money I have and know when my card is used to purchase anything. I should start changing and updating my passwords for my accounts more often, so
it is harder for people to get into it. Also I should start creating more advanced passwords as well. No one of my knowledge or myself has ever had to deal with identity theft.
