Week 5 Discussion
Data representation and interactivity are important aspects of data visualization.
Data representation is the visual presentation of data to an audience. It involves selecting suitable
charts, graphs, maps, or other visual elements to clearly convey the patterns, trends, and insights that are hidden within the data (Krik, 2016). Data visualization interactivity allows the audience to interact with the visual representation of data. By adding interactivity, engagement and understanding of the information can be improved. Users can explore the data in a more personalized and dynamic way, making the experience more meaningful.

Bar Charts - This technique is used to display values of different categories through bars of varying lengths or heights, which represent the actual value of each category (Kirk, 2016). Bar graph techniques are important because they are easy to understand and create. You can use this technique to display any information, from the number of goals Ronaldo scored in different years to the top 10 students' scores in this class. The x-axis represents the category, and the y-axis represents the quantitative values associated with the category (Krik, 2016).

Pie Chart - Pie charts are a simple and effective way to represent data. They display how different categories make up a whole circle, with each piece or angle representing the quantitative value of the category (Krik, 2016). By looking at the largest piece of the pie, you can quickly identify which data is most significant. Pie charts can also add variety with different colors, making it easy to compare and contrast different categories. For example, a pie chart could be used to compare the number of fans of Ronaldo versus Messi, dividing the chart into two groups.

Venn-Diagram: The Venn Diagram is not as commonly used as Bar Charts or Pie Charts. I recall using it for my math homework to display relationships between different groups or sets (Krik, 2016). Unlike Bar Graphs that have bars and Pie Charts that have circles, the Venn Diagram consists of two elliptical circles that intersect. The intersection represents the commonality between the two sets. For example, if you want to show the states where marijuana is legal versus those where same-sex marriage is allowed, you will find some states where both are legal, and they will fall inside the intersection. Other states will fall under either of the sets. States that do not allow either marijuana or same-
sex marriage will remain outside both elliptical circles.
To summarize, a data visualization that is well-designed should take into account the unique characteristics of the dataset and select the most appropriate way to represent the data. Additionally, incorporating interactivity can enhance the user's ability to comprehend and explore the data in a more engaging and interactive manner.
