Topic: Supply Chain Management (SCM) in Information Technology Introduction Supply chain management (SCM) in information technology (IT) is a complex and rapidly changing field. IT Supply Chain Management (ITSCM) is the process of managing the flow of IT products and services from the point of origin to the customer. The complexity of the process is further compounded by the rapid pace of technological change and the need for organizations to remain competitive. As the demand for IT services and products continues to grow, there is an increasing need for organizations to develop and implement effective IT Supply Chain Management strategies. This proposal seeks to explore the current state of ITSCM and identify potential areas for improvement. Research Question What are the best practices in IT supply chain management and how can organizations leverage them to increase operational efficiency? Thesis Statement By exploring the current state of IT supply chain management and identifying best practices, organizations can leverage these practices to improve operational efficiency and remain competitive in the IT industry. Justification In the current IT environment, organizations are competing to offer the best services and products in order to remain competitive. This proposal seeks to explore the current state of ITSCM and identify potential areas for improvement so that organizations can remain competitive and increase operational efficiency ( Cole, et al, 2019, p3(2)). Preliminary Literature Review There is a large body of research on IT supply chain management (ITSCM) that has been conducted in the past two decades. Much of this research has focused on various elements of ITSCM, such as the identification of best practices and the implementation of strategies for improving efficiency. For example, research has been conducted on the use of IT tools and HCIACS2023

processes to streamline supply chain operations, the development of strategies for increasing customer satisfaction, and the implementation of strategies for reducing costs. Additionally, there has been research conducted on the use of analytics in ITSCM and the use of predictive analytics to improve operations ( Yong, et al, 2020, p5(2)). One of the key benefits of IT in SCM is the automation of processes. Automation can reduce the time and effort required to perform various tasks, including order processing, inventory management, and shipping. For example, the use of electronic data interchange (EDI) allows for the automated exchange of data between trading partners, reducing the need for manual data entry and processing ( Hugos, 2018, p2(2)). Another benefit of IT in SCM is the ability to collect and analyze data. For example, the use of predictive analytics can help organizations forecast demand and plan production and inventory levels accordingly. The use of IT in SCM has also made it possible for organizations to collaborate more effectively with their suppliers and other partners in the supply chain. The use of web-based portals and other collaboration tools has made it easier for organizations to share information, track shipments, and manage inventory levels. This has led to improved communication and coordination, which can result in reduced costs and improved efficiency. In recent years, the use of blockchain technology has emerged as a promising area of application for SCM in IT. For example, the use of blockchain can enable organizations to track the origin of raw materials and ensure that they meet certain ethical and environmental standards ( Chedrawi & Howayeck, 2018, p4(4)). However, the implementation of IT in SCM also poses several challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the need for integration with existing systems. Many organizations have legacy systems that are not compatible with newer technologies, making it difficult to implement new SCM solutions. Another challenge is the need for skilled IT professionals who can manage and maintain these systems. The use of electronic data interchange and other online systems can make organizations vulnerable to cyber-attacks, leading to potential data breaches and other security breaches. It is important for organizations to implement appropriate security measures, including firewalls, HCIACS2023
encryption, and regular system updates, to minimize the risk of security breaches ( Cole, et al, 2019, p4(2)). Theoretical Framework This research will utilize a systems theory approach to analyze ITSCM. Systems theory is a theoretical framework used to analyze complex systems, such as those found in the IT industry.. This research will use systems theory to analyze the various components of ITSCM and identify areas for improvement. Statement of Contribution IT supply chain management through identifying best practices and potential areas for improvement. Additionally, this research will provide organizations with insight into how to leverage these best practices to increase operational efficiency and remain competitive in the IT industry ( Stadtler, et al, 2015, p4(4)). Proposed Research Methodology This research will utilize a qualitative research methodology. Qualitative research allows the researcher to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter through interviews, observation, and other data-gathering techniques. The researcher will use a combination of interviews, surveys, and document analysis to gain an in-depth understanding of the current state of ITSCM and identify potential areas for improvement. Research Plan and Outline The research plan will consist of four main stages: 1. Literature review: The researcher will understand the current state of ITSCM, the best practices, and potential areas for improvement. 2. Data collection: The researcher will utilize a combination of interviews, surveys, and document analysis to gather data on the current state of ITSCM ( Min, 2019, p2(2)). 3. Analysis: The researcher will analyze the data collected to identify areas for improvement and best practices. HCIACS2023
4. Conclusion: The researcher will draw conclusions from the data collected and present recommendations for improvement. Timetable of Proposed Research Day 1: Conduct literature review Develop research plan Day 2: Begin data collection Day 3: Continue data collection Day 4: Analyze data Day 5: Analyze data and draw conclusions Day 6: Write up results and recommendations HCIACS2023
