Unit 11 Forum
Find a video of a public speaker that you think is effective and persuasive. (Ted Talks
are a great source.) Analyze the speaker's performance, consider:
What elements of the presentation stood out?
What was strongest: the presentation's content or the presenter's
mannerisms?
Did the presenter use visual aids? Did they support the presenter's content?
Did the speaker engage the audience? If so, how?
How can you apply these exemplars to your own presentation (in this course
and in the future)?
Craft your analysis into a few paragraphs and paste a link to the video and your written
analysis into the Forum post.
Hi,
I choose the video titled "Why videos go viral", by Kevin Allocca, who is the
Global Director of Culture & Trends at YouTube. He talks about videos in this
platform, and how the videos go viral.

What elements of the presentation stood out?
Kevin Alloca, in order to attract attention, decides to ask sarcastic questions
about the proposed topic and shows images of great importance so that the
audience understands his message. On the other hand, the examples given
are cases where he explains the background because these videos are on a
platform where he works and has a recognized position, which draws
people's attention.
What was strongest: the presentation's content or the presenter's
mannerisms?
In my opinion, the two aspects are extremely important since, without the
presenter's gestures, it is not possible to capture the same attention
obtained. Although I do dare to say that the content of the presentation
seems a little more important to me because they were presented with
statistical graphs and videos, which support the information given.
Did the presenter use visual aids? Did they support the presenter's
content?
The presenter did use visual aids. This use of graphics where the
visualization of the videos I was talking about was shown on certain dates.
Videos, which explained their background and when they went viral. Finally, I
use images in a sarcastic way to make the presentation dynamic and fun.
Did the speaker engage the audience? If so, how?
The speaker did involve the audience but in an indirect way since there was
no direct participation, but he always looked for laughter or fun from it. I
achieve this with the videos and images that I present, adding their body
language. At the end of the video, we can see that if he achieved his goal
since he was recognized with applause at the end.
How can you apply these exemplars to your own presentation (in
this course and in the future)?
I can apply his technique of looking for the amusement of the audience
because this would ensure that they are paying attention to me for a large
part of it. On the other hand, it would seek to express the most important
information quickly, along with statistical graphs and images. Finally, body
language is very important as it gives confidence to the audience that you
are sure of the subject you are talking about.
