Task 1 (1500 words) Introduction Since the late 1980s, the digital revolution has transformed the economy and society. First came the development of a connected economy, characterized by mass take-up of the Internet and the roll-out of broadband networks. This was followed by the development of a digital economy via the increasing use of digital platforms as business models for the supply of goods and services. Now the movement is towards a digitalized economy whose production and consumption models are based on the incorporation of digital technologies in all economic, social and environmental dimensions. Digital technology is driving significant changes across just about every area of our lives. New developments and advancements mean that there are all kinds of jobs in the digital industry, creating opportunities for many different professionals. Examine the digital development of recent years and explain the continuing industrial advancement. digital development Digital technologies have advanced more rapidly than any innovation in our history – reaching around 50 per cent of the developing world’s population in only two decades and transforming societies. By enhancing connectivity, financial inclusion, access to trade and public services, technology can be a great equaliser. In the health sector, for instance, AI-enabled frontier technologies are helping to save lives, diagnose diseases and extend life expectancy. In education, virtual learning environments and distance learning have opened up programmes to students who would otherwise be excluded. Public services are also becoming more accessible and accountable through blockchain-powered systems, and less bureaucratically burdensome as a result of AI assistance.Big data can also support more responsive and accurate policies and programmes. The use of algorithms can replicate and even amplify human and systemic bias where they function on the basis of data which is not adequately diverse. Lack of diversity in the technology sector can mean that this challenge is not adequately addressed. continuing industrial advancement The First Industrial Revolution used water and steam power to mechanize production. The Second used electric power to create mass production. The Third used electronics and information technology to automate production. Now a Fourth Industrial Revolution is building on the Third, the digital revolution that has been occurring since the middle of the last century. It is characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres. There are three reasons why today’s transformations represent not merely a prolongation of the Third Industrial Revolution but rather the arrival of a Fourth and distinct one: velocity, scope, and systems impact. The speed of current breakthroughs has no historical precedent. When compared with previous industrial revolutions, the Fourth is evolving at an exponential rather than a linear pace. Moreover, it is disrupting almost every industry in every country. And the breadth and depth of these changes herald the transformation of entire systems of production, management, and governance.
The possibilities of billions of people connected by mobile devices, with unprecedented processing power, storage capacity, and access to knowledge, are unlimited. And these possibilities will be multiplied by emerging technology breakthroughs in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things, autonomous vehicles, 3-D printing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, materials science, energy storage, and quantum computing. Already, artificial intelligence is all around us, from self-driving cars and drones to virtual assistants and software that translate or invest. Impressive progress has been made in AI in recent years, driven by exponential increases in computing power and by the availability of vast amounts of data, from software used to discover new drugs to algorithms used to predict our cultural interests. Digital fabrication technologies, meanwhile, are interacting with the biological world on a daily basis. Engineers, designers, and architects are combining computational design, additive manufacturing, materials engineering, and synthetic biology to pioneer a symbiosis between microorganisms, our bodies, the products we consume, and even the buildings we inhabit. Provide an overview of the digital skills sections in demand and discuss examples from different industries and the modern workplace ‘Digital skills’ is a very broad term that covers a wide range of knowledge and competencies. Everybody’s definition will be different and this makes it difficult for governments and organizations to design interventions to address digital skills needs. As part of this report, Burning Glass analyzed millions of job adverts in the UK to understand what digital skills employers are demanding. As a result of this analysis, the report categorizes ‘digital skills’ in three ways: Baseline digital skills - Digital literacy skills that employers ask for in the vast majority of jobs across all sectors in the UK labour market. These include spreadsheet and word processing tools like Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, as well as enterprise management software like Oracle or SAP. These proficiencies are increasingly becoming a basic skill required for a majority of occupations. Digital skills - Competences in and/or knowledge of IT tools including computer programs and programming languages. Specific digital skills - Digital skill requirements for more technically oriented jobs in areas such as customer relationship management (CRM) software, computer networking, digital media and design software, social media tools, and search engine analysis. An overall finding of the report is that digital skills are becoming near-universal requirements for employment. As people move up the career ladder from low to high-skilled jobs, there is an increased demand for specific digital skills, and acquiring these skills makes career progression pay more likely. Digital skills are near-universal requirements Digital skills are not only required for high-skill jobs. They are now required across the full span of the labor market, ranging from entry-level call center workers to sophisticated information technology roles. Even amongst low-skill jobs, 75% of postings are in digital occupations, increasing to 85% of middle-skill jobs and 83% of high-skill jobs.
Demand by skill level The pandemic catalyzed an already-accelerating rate of digital transformation, where the old ways of doing things — from grocery shopping to work — changed irreversibly. The demand for digital skills was likewise impacted, as companies shifted from physical headquarters to embracing a digital HQ mentality. While this trend had been gaining momentum for decades across all industries, today’s acceleration is unprecedented. Now, digital adoption and the respective digital skills needed to embrace the transformation are critical to landing more secure, in-demand tech careers. In fact, those skills are essential to the survival of businesses. Digital skills have never been more critical to business and the workforce, as demonstrated by the universal shift to digital-first interactions like remote work, online commerce, and virtual collaboration. While this change has produced many benefits, like greater flexibility for workers and removing geography as a barrier to hiring new talent, it’s also resulted in the widening of an already-large skills gap. Digital skills in Fashion Industry The digital division is one that has had the most changes in recent years. The advent of social media has led to the introduction of many new roles that did not exist before: social media manager, influencer relationship manager as well as the figures related to e-commerce, clearly connected to the digital world, are increasingly in demand. Most of the skills listed below and necessary for a digital career can be acquired on your own, thanks to the use of the Internet which provides us with access to sites, reports, Yotuube videos, podcasts and courses. 1. Social Media Management With social media management skills, we obviously don’t mean the ability to post a photo on Instagram, Facebook or a Tweet. This takes for granted that everyone knows how to do it. You don’t add Explorer or Safari on your resume to your technical skills because it is obvious that we all know how to use Internet on a daily basis. The same goes for social media. Social media management skills go beyond

personal use. 2. Influencer Marketing It is impossible to work in fashion today and not knowing what the influencer marketing is. In fact, this new marketing strategy impacts all the company departments. The knowledge on influencer marketing does not only mean being aware that brands collaborate with influencers by giving products or an economic contribution in exchange for visibility on their channels. Influencer marketing is much more. Here too there is a team that develops a strategy: it chooses the right influencers for the campaign, establishes the budgets, coordinates with the rest of the company for new product launches. 3. Google Analytics Google is not only the tool that allows us to know anything, but its potential covers the entire digital system. That’s why it’s the number one tool to check and analyze site views or e-commerce sales. Even if you don’t work in e-commerce or as a digital editor, but with social media, you need to know Google Analytics and its main metrics. A social campaign, a magazine advertisement page or an influencer collaboration, must always be measured with a view to the common goal of all companies: increasing profits. So if this month you worked with an influencer or sponsored a post on social media, hired a celebrity, you will need to measure performance results by checking the impact generated on the website and the sales. The tool that tells you if there was an increase in traffic on a specific day, where the visits and sales come from, is Google Analytics. 4.Online Platforms (WordPress, E-commerce, Magento, CRM, Shopify) To work in online publishing and then fill roles as a digital editor, online editor, blogger, as well as to work in e-commerce, you need to know how to use the main platforms. In general, the knowledge of WordPress is sufficient for those who will have to manage an online magazine or blog, since it is the most used CMS platform. You can practice with WordPress by starting your own free blog. As for e- commerce, each brand has its own management platform, but in general, knowing how Shopify or Magento works can give you an overall view and get familiar with the e-commerce system. 5. Graphic tools Digital includes many different roles. Some, such as Digital Designer, require the development of graphics: social media posts, the newsletter, the website pages, digital invitations to events or fashion showsTherefore a good basis for Photoshop, HTML and CSS, videos editing (After Effects) is always useful. Then, based on the role that you’ll choose, the level of knowledge of these tools must be deepened or not. On Youtube you will find lots of video tutorials on each program and how to develop code. 6. Writing and communication Skills Digital jobs include PR, Marketing, Social and E-commerce careers. All these departments have communication at the center of their strategy. Without good communication, the (digital) PR would not be able to establish the relationships necessary with journalists, bloggers, influencers, brands, the social networks would not be able to create a connection with their customers and the e-commerce would fail
to sell a product without even trying it. Therefore communication skills are essential for a career in digital Digital skills at work As technology advances, most jobs are beginning to need some level of digital skill. Technology is also creating lots of exciting new jobs. These jobs will need workers with the confidence to: use the internet on a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or PC communicate online using email and social media work from home or a remote location. For example, using online tools like Zoom, Skype, Teams and Facetime to communicate create online accounts to access information search for reliable information online behave safely and legally online Task 2 (1500 words) Introduction Leadership and management are an integral part of every organisation. The objectives and goals set for the organisation require the direction of how to do and what to do to perform the duties and responsibilities aligned with the strategic plans. And while performing and executing the duties, management is needed to ensure all the resources are there, the right people are doing the right job, and coordination among all the inputs and outputs. A person can make himself/herself capable of doing these things through a personal development plan, facilitating and enhancing effective leadership and management within that person. Reflect on own management and leadership skills The terms leadership and management are often considered the same thing, but they aren't. Indeed, both are interrelated with each other, but each of them has distinct characteristics and functions. Leadership provides directions for performing a task, whereas management controls everything to ensure the fulfilment of the task (Rouse, 2010). Leaders focus on inspiring team members, building relationship, listening to others etc. On the other hand, management focuses on planning, organising, controlling, stuffing etc. Leaders perform based on their vision, and managers work based on strategies and tactical aspects. As a result, both of them are important for achieving organisational goals because leaders communicate what to do and motivate it. Management ensures the people have all the things needed to perform the tasks and maintain discipline and coordination.
Both managers and leaders are equally important to any part of a business; in my current employment there are manager and leaders who all play an equal part in growing the business, leaders such as myself instil goals and push my team to achieve their overall sales target and my director takes the results and implements new objectives and goals to align activities with the overall business goal. Leaders and managers are both essential to the success of an organization. Leaders provide a clear vision for their organization, develop strong relationships with team members, and provide direction when necessary while allowing individuals freedom to make decisions. Managers have the business skills needed to direct operations, build strong relationships with team members, create a team culture that supports individual initiative and creativity, and provide clear direction while balancing personal priorities. Together, leaders and managers engineer the success of the company. I have developed my management and leadership skills by emulating my admired leaders. I have had leaders who are democratic and transformational. Their core values are integrity and vision. They have been using an open line of communication with staff and demonstrated integrity and respect for the staff's experience and knowledge. Mutual respect has led to employee satisfaction and employee retention, which has engineered the company's successful operation and led to customer loyalty and brand recognition. The leaders have been intentional in motivating other people to be present for the vision of the projects. They have used collaboration and discussion to increase the creativity and innovation of the employees through brainstorming and encouraging the staff to think outside the box. From them, I have learned to be a democratic and transformational leader. I uphold integrity, vision, focus, encouraging creativity and innovation among employees, and encouraging teamwork. I have also learned from how phenomenal business leaders handle their businesses, how they handle their workflows, and how they manage their teams. I have also read multiple books on business leadership and management. I have also applied what I have learned on management and leadership in various reallife situations. For instance, I have mastered identifying the key priorities of a business or a team and choosing to handle those priorities before focusing on other minor issues. I learned this and it has become one of the ideas that have helped me generate more revenues than other people in teams and personal businesses. Developing management and leadership skills are very important for a person's present and future. It makes a person more skilled, knowledgeable and efficient. So, here's how one can develop his/her management and leadership skills. Personal Development Plan: To reflect on my management skills, I would use the SWOT analysis that is an analysis tool to analyze owns strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (East, 2019). This tool help to evaluate the competitive position of an organisation and it can be applied on evaluating a person for the individual development plan also. As a manager, it is easier to work and handle the tasks if the manager is aware of his strengths and weaknesses. This analysis tool would also help me in understanding the opportunities for me i.e. what new options can be available for me in the future and my threats to my career and development which I would be able to overcome using my strengths. Strength I can communicate well with my team members and my customers I have the ability to raise questions and ask those questions to find the right angle of marketing
