Investing and Financial Markets 1 Should Saudi schools teach children about cybercrimes and scammers? Student’s Name Department; Institution Professor’s Name Course Code and Name Date
Investing and Financial Markets 2 Should Saudi schools teach children about cybercrimes and scammers? Over the decade, internet use has become a basic need in many households worldwide. The same situation is being experienced in Saudi Arabia, where the use of the internet by the youths has been increasing tremendously. The rise of internet use is also witnessed in the education sector, creating vulnerabilities for hackers and scammers. The Kingdom has had increased incidences of cybercrime recently. For instance, in 2021, Saudi Arabia faced 7 million cyber-attacks in only two months. It is reported that political tensions in the Kingdom correlate with the rise in cyber-attacks and crimes. Additionally, the levels of awareness of cyber security among youths in Saudi Arabia are reported to have existing gaps in knowledge of cyber security ( Alharbi et al., 2021). As a result, Saudi Arabia needs to incorporate lessons on cybercrimes and scammers in their school curriculum. Students are at risk of data breaches and manipulations, denial of services, internet of Things (IoT) vulnerabilities, and phishing (TOI-Online, 2022). The students will be saved from cybercrime victimization by teaching Saudi schools about cybercrimes and scammers. Most of these incidences come about due to ignorance, which can be averted when students can identify misinformation, fake emails, fraudulent schemes, cyber threats, and phishing schemes and quickly use cyber security measures to save them and avoid falling victims (TOI-Online, 2022). It can also help students learn better ways to address cyber bullying. Additionally, cyber security knowledge will be relevant for Saudi children who, in the future, may want to venture into cyber security jobs (TOI-Online, 2022). The introduction of cyber security concepts in school will improve cyber security job prospects. Children will be mentally prepared and familiarized with suitable career opportunities in ten fields. Since there is a rise in demand for cyber security professionals in the job market, such knowledge will be
Investing and Financial Markets 3 essential for students not only in Saudi but the rest of the world. Also, teaching cyber security in schools will reduce cybercrime levels in the country. Since most of the population will be equipped with their knowledge, they can protect their assets from scammers and hackers. By so doing, people psychological and mental health status will be intact. It is reported that mental illnesses are skyrocketing, and cyber insecurity and scammers are one of the areas where people may be conned, leading to stress. Teaching cyber security topics in Saudi schools will promote responsible behavior online. For instance, by instilling these concepts in young minds, they will be able to know the importance of respecting other people's privacy and understand the importance of abiding by copyright laws, among other behaviors. To continue, Saudi students equipped with scammers and cyber security will bridge the gap between cyber security literacy and literacy. Knowing and applying something improved the general public's quality of life economically, socially, and even politically. However, as this knowledge is shared and taught in schools, laws must be established to restrict students' hacking and other unethical internet activities. In conclusion, the country will improve general awareness of these concepts by educating the younger generation about cybercrimes and scammers. Saudi children will be empowered to navigate the digital space, feeling safe and secure. This is because they will have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to protect themselves from adversities. For these reasons, propose that Saudi needs to teach their children about cyber security and scammers. However, cyber security knowledge should be taught cautiously to ensure it empowers modal citizens, not creating future criminals.
