Reflection on NCL Competition and NICE Challenge Project
During Week 2 of the NCL Competition and NICE Challenge Project, I had a significant
learning experience that contributed to my academic, personal, and professional development.
Here are my key takeaways:
What Have I Learned?
I learned about the importance of Open Source Intelligence
(OSINT) and its role in cybersecurity. OSINT involves gathering information from publicly
available sources to gain insights into various aspects of a target, which can be invaluable for
threat analysis and mitigation. Through the NCL Competition, I had the opportunity to apply
OSINT techniques and enhance my skills in this area.
How/Why Did I Learn It?
I learned about OSINT through the assigned challenges and
activities on the Cyberskyline platform. These challenges required me to use search engines,
public repositories, social media, and other sources to gather information about potential threats.
I also utilized tools like metadata viewers to reverse engineer image sources and extract valuable
details.
NICE Challenge Project Experience:
In the NICE Challenge Project, I learned how to schedule a workspace. While I haven't
started working on the challenge yet, this skill is essential for efficient time management. It
ensures that I have a dedicated environment to work on the challenges when the time comes. To
add to my frustration, unlike the NCL Competition, where challenges were immediately
accessible, the NICE Challenge Project required patience and preparation. Learning how to
schedule workspaces taught me the importance of planning ahead and being prepared for future
tasks.

Contribution to My Development:
This experience has contributed significantly to my
academic, personal, and professional development. Academically, it expanded my knowledge in
the field of cybersecurity and OSINT, which is a crucial skill in today's digital world. Personally,
it challenged me to think critically and persevere through difficult tasks, which has improved my
problem-solving abilities. Professionally, these skills are directly applicable to a career in
cybersecurity, and I feel more confident in my ability to gather intelligence and respond to
threats.
Application of What I've Learned:
I can apply what I've learned in various ways. In my
future career, I can use OSINT techniques to identify potential vulnerabilities, track down
malicious actors, and gather threat intelligence. Additionally, these skills can be useful for
personal cybersecurity, ensuring my online presence is secure and private.
While this week's challenges were challenging and sometimes frustrating, I persevered
and learned valuable skills. The video link provided in the instructions also helped me gain a
better understanding of the concepts, making the learning experience more effective. Overall,
this week's activities have been a great learning opportunity, and as I move forward in the NCL
Competition and NICE Challenge Project, I am excited to continue learning, facing challenges
head-on, and collaborating with my peers to enhance my cybersecurity skills further.
