Chapter 10 Questions
1: What is Instructional System Design? What is its relevance to LOFT?
Instructional Systems Development is the FAA recommended process for construction and
implementation of an AQP. It is therefore also pertinent to any LOS.
The LOS is any simulation
of the line environment for the purpose of training or evaluating a flight crew. The Emphasis is on
a combination of technical and CRM skills like LOFT. Line oriented flight training is a key
vehicle for training crew resource management because is tis the primary means for providing
crew members the opportunity to practice skill and to receive feedback on their performance in a
crew setting.
2: What is the ISD development model process?
ISD is a systematic approach is emphasized. A step-by-step process defined for the production of
LOS events and for the training programs in which they occur. This process is best envisioned as
a continuing cycle of improvement in both the training and the organization with evaluation
occurring.
3: In your opinion, under the Analyze step of ISD, should everyone be made to do the same
things, or should training be tailored to weaknesses? Discuss
Like all forms of learning I think that everyone should be taught the same thing however if
additional training in a specific aspect of training is needed then the weakness should be
approached.
4: What is an Event set? Is Scenario-Based Training the same thing?
Event sets are the scenario in a conceptual manner that is often based on phase of flight. An
individual event set is constructed around selected RCRM and technical objectives. This is
similar to scenario-based training because it is about a phase of flight however it is more specific
because it puts the crew through a specific scenario.
5: What is the difference between Initial Qualification and Recurrent Training?
Scenario-based recurrent training assumes that the students have foundation therefore the training
has reduced guidance and much less interaction with the instructor as compared to qualification
training for a new fleet.
6: How does assigning grades to simulation students help in course data collection and course
development?
With the objective’s grades pulled from the data you are able to build your training around the
essential list of what should be worked on. Companies document allow for the generated list of
what performance ranges need to be worked on. The grading can be defined as failure repeat or
debrief to standards.
7: In your opinion, if different airlines fly the same jet, shouldn't the standards for training in the
equipment be the same? Why would companies have different training standards and scenarios?
The needs for ever organization are not always the same therefore their training is not the same.
The interior of airplanes are also different and often customized based off the company’s models.
Aircrafts are so customizable that there is no way that all crews can be trained the same way. The
standards of airlines also differ so some many want to be trained a specific way and some may be
more laxed.
