OLS 33400: Fire Protection Systems
Assignment 8 – Life Safety Codes
Instruction:
TASK:
We recently discussed the Life Safety Code. They exist today, because of
several catastrophic fires that focused national attention on the fire problem and the
inadequacies of life safety features in buildings.
For this assignment, you are to select one organization of your choice (your currently
employment, or other organization where people work that you have an access to) and
determine applicable Life Safety Codes.
There will be a lot of information, so what I would like to see is each student to select
top
ten (10) applicable life safety code/standards
. Each student would then discuss
(a) what they are and (b) provide justification as to WHY you thought those are the
important codes/standards for your selected establishment. Each applicable
code/standards will have above mentioned (a) and (b) components.
You should have an access to NFPA 101 through NFPA website using the log in you
created as a part of this course assignment:
https://www.nfpa.org/codes-and-standards/all-codes-and-standards/list-of-codes-and-
standards/detail?code=101
(You cannot print out nor copy the standards, but you can view its contents.)
The following table (Table 1) presents a suggested procedure for determining the Code
requirements for a building or structure.
