Sabrina Capozzi-Herrera HRM 444 Fall 2022 Chapter 8 Case Assignment
1. What culture-related problems and issues do you see in these uses of TCNs? Most companies hire TCNs because they are knowledgeable in different languages than their home country, global markets, and move easier from country to than local employees. While this can be a consider an asset, TCNs can be unfamiliar with the culture of the region and company policies they just moved to. For example, TCN might move to a region where they are not familiar with the local language, and it can cause a communication break down with employees. Also, country cultures may be unfamiliar and the TCN may try to incorporate their own culture that may not be welcomed by others, which can cause confusion and stress. 2 How can those culture-related concerns be understood and dealt with? Making sure that the TCN is fully familiar with the local language and regional culture. Helping them be aware of the cultural differences and allowing time to adjust when needed. Understanding the way the TCN communications using the low context or high context communication style. 3 What role does international HR need to take in coping with the cultural issues presented by the use of TCNs? First, when hiring TCNs, they should be thoroughly screened to ensure they can fit the parent company’s culture. The international HR reps can also act as a mentor to the TCNs. Providing more training if needed on local customs. Understanding what the cultural issue may be and providing solutions that works for the TCN and other employees so there’s no favoritism shown. 4 Are there other alternatives for finding enough talent to fill global needs? I think cross training local talent with TCN could be an alternative. The local talent can teach the TCN about the cultural customs and company policies on one location and the TCN could teach the local talent other languages and their cultural customs. It would allow the parent company to retain their current local employees. It could provide different job opportunities in different market locations which will increase productivity and morale.
