1.
Identify a problem-solving technique or method you have used in a previous situation and explain how it helped you. How might problem-solving methods be different in diverse cultures or fields of work? How can effective problem-solving help you in your academic journey?
A problem-solving method that works for me is to simply forget about it. I can be an overthinking, indecisive person. Walking away from the problem and giving myself a mental break opens my mind to other resolutions. I recently utilized this method when trying to decide which property to buy for a flip. I was able to forget about it and come back to the situation with a clear head and the capabilities of identifying the pros and cons of each property.
Every situation may require a different problem-solving method. I understand my method may not work for everyone. Some situations are not forgettable. If a doctor is performing surgery and
something goes wrong, then they may use another strategy to solve a problem more quickly. Giving yourself a mental break and reapproaching a situation may look different to those that can’t walk away or need an immediate solution.
Effective problem solving may help me in my academic journey by ensuring I have tools to resolve any situation I may have. It can also help with clarity, understanding, and strategic thinking. 2.
Identify your learning style and explain how knowing/learning about your learning style helped support your success throughout this course.
I find it best to learn a new skill by being hands on and doing things.
I am a tactile learner.
Knowing I am a tactile learner, I understand the essentials of hands-on activities. Implementing hands on activities ensures I have grabbed the knowledge, and it has aided my success throughout this course. I engage in the “Try It” activities and I realize how much they help with my digestion of the methods being taught. 3.
Identify which of the five successful habits of an SNHU student have been most helpful for you throughout this course. Explain how those habits have helped you.
Logging in early and utilizing the rubric are two of the five habits of an SNHU student that has helped me throughout this course.
Logging in early helps me to prioritize my time, especially while utilizing a master calendar. This has also set expectations for the upcoming week. With the understanding of what my assignments are, I have been able to add more time to my schedule if one week had additional assignments than a previous week. Using the rubric has also been helpful to me. I am an overachiever and I like to score high on my assignments. Understanding what is expected for my assignments has ensured I achieve the highest grade possible, and it has confirmed my understanding of what was taught to me. Using the rubric has also confirmed how well I completed all my assignments. 4.
Explain how you will stay on track in your courses and overcome interruptions that may impact your schedule.
The first step of overcoming interruptions is to identify what interruption I face. Every day comes
with different situations and challenges. I will be utilizing a scheduler to ensure I stay on task and
dedicate the appropriate time to my studies. When interruptions take place, the first thing that is
affected is my time. Although all interruptions can’t be ignored, I will ensure I prioritize my studies and makeup any missed study time. I will also utilize the available resources offered at SNHU and complete my assignments ahead of the due date to provide myself time for additional
tasks.
Being a single mom makes it hard to prioritize anything over my children. However, by creating a schedule for business, school, motherhood and my social life I have already minimized a couple of my interruptions which provides success when striving to accomplish my goals. 5.
Choose two SNHU resources (departments and resources that are part of SNHU) and two social supports (people, places, and things outside of SNHU) that will help the most with achieving your mission and goals, and that will help you prioritize your time. Also indicate why these resources and social supports are key for your success.
My Academic advisor (Jessica)- SNHU resource
My advisor will help me to achieve my missions and goals. She sends encouraging email to congratulate me for how well I am doing in my courses and offers any help I may need
while striving to accomplish my goals. She helps me with scheduling classes that fit into my current lifestyle. Jessica understands I am a business owner and single mom. She is currently assisting me with finding my way as I handle my everyday life and strive to accomplish my goals. Jessica is key to my success and helps with prioritizing my time.
Academic Support- SNHU resource
I have been out of school for a few years. I am aware of how hard it will be to get back in
the swing of assignments like writing. Having access to tutoring and written feedback will help me prioritize my time because I am aware of how important it is to reach out for that assistance ahead of the due date of the assignment. Scheduling with a tutor would ensure my study time is guaranteed and that time block is dedicated to my schoolwork. Taking online classes comes with a sense of independence but with the assistance of academic support, I can perform successfully as a student, get good grades,
and accomplish my goals and mission. These resources are key to my success. I am not alone, and help is always available to me.
My children- Social Support
My children are a social supporter to me because they are my main form of motivation. My entire world revolves around my boys therefor, achieving my mission and goals is a must. The degree I am pursuing will increase my income and allow me to provide more for my boys. I will also be able to prepare for my boy’s future and spend more time with them. My boys look up to me, so I must make sure I set great examples for them. Having them watch me work hard to earn my degree is a wonderful feeling. Knowing their lively hood is banked on my success, I am unstoppable, and failure is not an option.
My grandmother- Social support
My grandmother is one of my social supporters. Besides my children, she is a major motivator in my life. There is always a constant reminder to stay focused, my dreams can
be accomplished, and there is nothing I cannot do which is key. She helps me with prioritizing my time by offering help with my children so there are no interruptions with my study time. I am a single mom, and it can be hard completing motherly duties and schoolwork. With the breaks I receive from my grandmother, I take full advantage and complete my studies, which helps with my success.

List your personal academic mission statement.
My academic goal is to successfully obtain my bachelor’s degree in accounting by May 2026. I intend to utilize this degree to add to my business portfolio. I own a tax preparation business. As an accountant, I can offer additional services to my customers. These services can increase revenue and
convert my business from operating seasonal to year-round. With additional qualifications, I hope to grow my business, clientele, and revenue to provide for my children and their future. 7.
List your THREE short-term academic goals.
My goal is to utilize the available resources at SNHU to maximize my understanding of my schoolwork.
My goal is to sufficiently utilize a master calendar to prioritize my study time.
My goal is to successfully utilize all rubrics to score high points for all completed assignments and pass my classes. 8.
Describe the importance of setting goals on your academic journey.
It is important for me to set goals while on my academic journey because my goals serve as a compass to achieving my main mission. They are also in place to hold me accountable for my success. Goals help with maintaining focus, time management, priority, and direction. Goals are insight into where I am headed, why I am doing something, and what is the reward for completing it.
Whether a goal is short or long term, it is a promise I make to myself with a successful reward. 9.
Explain how you are going to stay motivated to achieve your goals and mission statement, based on what you have learned in SNHU 107.
SNHU 107 has taught me how to manage my time, prioritize, and identify interruptions in my life. With what I have learned from this course, I am now equipped to successfully achieve my goals. I am
aware of why I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree and what I need to do to get there. I will continue to stay motivated by striving to accomplish my short-term goals and set new ones, prioritize my time,
minimize the interruptions in my life, and remember the reward at the end of my academic journey. Every time I look into the eyes of my boys will be more than enough motivation for me to keep striving. 10.
Explain why an awareness of diversity is beneficial to giving and receiving feedback when collaborating with others.
An awareness of diversity is beneficial when giving and receiving feedback because it can ensure communication is done effectively. If you don’t understand diversity awareness, then intentions and meaning can get lost in translation and lead to miscommunication. It is important to have a culture sensitivity when giving and receiving feedback and understanding the culture difference. Some statements can be interpreted differently and with awareness comes respect and consideration of the culture difference.
11.
Explain why it is important to take ownership, be vulnerable, ask for help, and have an open mind to achieve your goals.
While achieving my goals, I understand I will come across some situations when I need to keep an open mind, ask for help, take ownership, and be vulnerable. As a student, I am learning. I have to be open minded to learn different methods and skills that I can use throughout my career. I have learned it is ok to be vulnerable and ask for help. Asking for help is taking ownership of my academic success. I am going to utilize the resources available to me to guarantee my success. I hold myself accountable for my success when striving to achieve my goals.

Explain what your biggest takeaway was from this course.
The biggest takeaway from this course is prioritizing my time. I didn’t realize how much more thing I could get done in a day with organization. I have been utilizing a master calendar and I have been more productive. This was a learned method that assist with my business, academic journey, children, and personal life. This is a method that is not embedded in my everyday life. Success is on the schedule.
