Introduction Process improvement techniques that use a knowledge-based approach with statistical methods and progressive management practices depict lean six sigma (Li et al., 2020). Lean six sigma aims to enhance an organization's work processes by understanding and controlling variation in outcomes from materials, methods, machines, labor, measurements, and nature (Tay & Loh, 2021). Davidson et al. (2020) found that because data is more readily accessible, more opportunities exist to implement the lean six sigma methodology to improve processes. Consultant's Assessment/ Recommendations Through the process of review of the consultant’s assessment and recommendations, I agree that the DMAIC process provides organizations with the process improvement and reduction of waste. As a consultant, there is a determination that numerous supply chain and distribution issues result in production lead times delays for raw materials creating a delay in the time the plant receives the raw materials. The supply chain management systems require additional information to allow accurate future order forecasting helping to alleviate potential bottleneck issues resulting from the manufacturing issues. Through a thorough assessment, as you stated the introduction of the DMAIC Kaizen approach can determine the appropriate factors to determining how to fix the manufacturing issue. The implementation of the DMAIC process can remedy the non-value-adding steps causing the waste. All phases of DMAIC must be evaluated and followed since the widget manufacturing plant faces an unknown time delay. When experiencing complexities in problem-solving, personnel with various specialties of expertise must find the root cause of the problem (George et al., 2005). In this case, the problem is why this organization’s final product takes less than 4 hours of prep and all the raw materials to ship date is 3 months. Next, the consultant can measure the various capabilities through data
collected from current employees to detect the types of variation that can offer a remedy to the root cause of the problem. The regular meetings between the team and organizational management during the measurement phase facilitate knowledge creation through tacit and explicit knowledge (Asif, 2021). Once the data is collected from the source, an appropriate root cause analysis and multi-vari chart is suggested to help identify possible process failures. Time- series analysis is an appropriate technique to evaluate the complex time series and varying trends of the fluctuating arrival of raw materials (Yin, 2018). After completion of the analysis, the consultant could design various experiments to solve the process issues related to product shipment. This is the state where the Kaizen event can calculate the process leads times that occur once the measurement of the entire process completes while looking for time traps and capacity constraints (George et al., 2005). The control methods suggested would be an appropriate control plan that documents what needs to be improved and a 5S process to create a workplace appropriate for visual control. The 5s methodology comprising of the sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain processes effectively ensures that none of the raw material is lost or overlooked and processed in an orderly manner (George et al., 2005). Conclusion Ober (2022) asserts that organizations can establish duplicable standards and streamline operations while continuously reducing errors. As a resource-intensive approach, Sigma six requires a group of trained members ready to devote themselves to ensuring the long-term improvement of the project (George et al., 2005). While this project requires full use of DMAIC phases, emphasis should be placed on the measure and analyze phases to determine an appropriate solution from prioritized root causes (2005). Time-series analysis and 5S methodology are dynamic tools to use during the measure and improve phase, respectively
(2005). The recommendation to utilize DMAIC steps is supported since this complex project problem requires a project-team approach. References Davidson, J. M., Price, O. M., & Pepper, M. (2020).
