HRM 200 Module 8-1 Discussion: Your Future in HR In the ever-evolving field of human resources, it is extremely important for HR professionals to continuously upskill and reskill their own abilities to meet the needs of the changing workforce. From attending training courses to closing knowledge gaps to reading about current trends, HR professionals can draw from a variety of resources and tools to help them prepare to support the workforce of the future. In your final discussion, you will reflect on what you have learned in this course and consider how it can help you prepare for challenging trends in the field. Before you begin, reflect on how you can apply what you have learned about the daily work functions of HR and their impact on the employee life cycle to what the readings in this module discuss about current and future trends in HR. Then, for your initial post, address the following: How will you apply what you have learned in this course to your current or future career? Think about which topics in this course have been the most interesting, valuable, or important in your opinion. This course has been so helpful to me in gaining insight into the HR field. The company I currently work for has recently been utilizing a lot of the topics we discussed in this course. It is interesting to learn about them here, and to also see them being implemented on the job. Taking on a managerial role, I never really knew to what capacity a leader was. Upon completing this course, I have learned that to be successful as a person, but also as part of a larger group, it is important to take the minute differences between employees and find a way for them to blend. With my future in the company, I will now be able to provide insight into employee empowerment and engagement. I feel confident that I will be able to assist in job design and development in a way that will be beneficial to not only the employer, but the employees as well. I look forward to recruitment and hiring the right employees for the various jobs. I am grateful for the knowledge I have gained over the last eight weeks, and I am excited to apply that to my life not only professionally, but personally as well. Which of the current or future trends in the field of HR do you think will be the most challenging for you personally? Why? I think I will have the hardest time learning all the various employment laws and regulations. These policies and procedures are in place for very specific reasons, & I know over time I will be able to remember them better. I also feel there will be times when I get discouraged because I won’t be able to please everyone at the same time. I will need to remind myself that it will be near impossible to make everyone happy while also maintaining the best interests of the company I am working for. I will also need to remember that if as a member of the HR team, I need to strive to support both the employee and the company. I will need to remember that a great HR representative is able to align both the goals and values of the employee with those of the company. 1
