Each team member should share his/her own responses to questions below with other team members. Within your assigned group, discuss and align on responses to the questions below using a "problem solving approach": Extra Question: What are the Problem Statements (using the four-step process) for this case? 7.6. What are the salient situational factors? The issue importance is low to medium as long as this review does not affect her pay or job security. The relationship importance is relatively high (between medium and high) because she needs to have a relatively good relationship with her boss in order to maintain a good work environment, and working relationship. The relative power is definitely stacked in favor of Bill. This creates a power imbalance which complicates the route to the solution. The time constraint situational factor is low as long as the outcome does not result in her losing her job. This is because the issue does not present an immediate threat to the functioning of the business. 7.7. What is the most appropriate conflict management strategy? Why? The most appropriate conflict management strategy for this situation is collaboration . This is because the collaboration strategy allows for input from both parties to reach a common ground. Collaboration is also the best strategy for low time constraint , high relationship importance , and low to high relative power . Using collaboration they can reach a conclusion that works for both of them. Extra Question. Implementation Plan: Based upon the above responses, identify the components of an implementation plan for improvement. What- The thing that needs to be addressed is Bill’s compulsive need for the cleanliness of the facilities and employees, and not recognizing them when they do what he has asked. How- Having a meeting with Bill, and asking him to clearly outline his expectations for cleanliness will provide insight into what he wants. Then comparing those expectations to what is realistic according to time and individual constraints will help to bring compromise to a tense situation. Why- This needs to happen to bring cohesiveness to the facility between management and staff. Placing these expectations on staff creates an unnecessary burden that, in its absence would create a more productive work environment. Who- The people responsible will be me (the new hire) and Bill. After coming to the collaborative conclusion, implementing this plan will become the responsibility of everyone.
