Describe the results of this experiment.
The result of the experiment is the growth rate of height in cm per time in weeks. Two types of plants and six plants, three wheat plants and three Rye plants. The data for the wheat plants shows us that wheat plants grow higher than the rye. The wheat plants reached a maximum height of 10cm in the 8 weeks measured, where the rye plants reached a maximum of 6cm in the 8 weeks. The third wheat plant grew the shortest at 7cm and was measured as always smaller than the other two plants. We can see the wheat plant 1 grew the fastest by the slope 1.402cm, for every one week, the plant grew on average 1.402cm. Plant two wasn’t far behind at 1.343cm and the third slower plants slope was 0.9853cm.

How would you compare the data in Activity 1 to the data in Activity 2?
If I was comparing the data of the hand drawn graph to the computer generated one, I would find the excel graph to be more accurate. We can create equations and formulas to find plot points and slopes, where hand drawn maps would be off and not as precise. My hand drawn graphs could be whole number points, but they could also represent points with decimals, excel
is able to plot exact points.
Data
Intro Lab: Data Table 1
Wheat Plant Trendline
Equation
Wheat Plant 1 trendline equation
y = 1.2381x + 0.9286 Wheat Plant 1 trendline corrected
y = 1.402x
Wheat Plant 2 trendline equation
y = 1.0595x + 1.6071
Wheat Plant 2 trendline corrected
y = 1.3431x
Wheat Plant 3 trendline equation
y = 1.0357x - 0.2857
Wheat Plant 3 trendline corrected
y = 0.9853x
3.
Based on the corrected trend lines, which wheat plant grew fastest?
Based on the corrected trend lines, Wheat Plant 1 had the fastest grow rate with the larger slope of 1.402. 4.
Why do you set the y
-intercept to 0?
We set the y-intercept to zero, because as a seed the plant starts out as zero, it can’t be negative, and we cannot be sure of the growth under the soil.
