The course information and concepts for this week definitely related to the core value of the MPA program. The reading on merit based pay was very informative and can be used as a method for promoting efficiency if created equal. Not all merit pay plans are created equal and to ensure equality in the merit-based pay program a straightforward formula should be used and based on the transparent payout scheme and consist of a clear understanding of the type of outcomes the plan rewards. A successful merit-based plan should provide significant rewards to teachers accomplishing their goals regardless of the other teachers ‘performance. Using this method creates a better situation than one that causes teachers to compete against each other. Fearing poorly design merit-pay plans cause unhealthy competition among teachers. A merit-based plan could work for the teachers if it is done fairly.
