List the 3 primary characteristics of this product development project that qualify it to be
considered a project.
As part of this project, the PM will design, prototype, test, patent (file for patent), and
commercialize an aftermarket device that can be added to any windshield wiper to aid with the
problem of eliminating bugs from the front windshield (Qiu, 2023, p.247). This undertaking has
a one-year time limit. The project manager employs various management techniques to ensure
the project is completed on time and within budget. Additional examples will be provided for
each project management process step, and existing answers will be expanded upon.
This
product development project has the hallmarks of a true project in that there is an objective to be
met, a time frame within which to do so, and a collection of resources (human, material, and
monetary) that must be allocated.
Describe a project initiation force that caused this project to be initiated.
The project started when the company's president requested the R&D director develop a
new product. This action prompted the necessity to maximize earnings, maintain market share, or
keep up with shifting tastes in vehicle accessories. To create a new, profitable product, a
company must first identify a market need (Tripathi & Talukder, 2023, p. 3).
Explain why you chose the specific type of project.
The company recognized that there is a demand for an after-market attachment that
solves the problem of removing bugs from the front windshield. It was decided to conduct a
product development project. Researching, designing, prototyping, and testing a new item makes
this project perfect for the current endeavor. Due to the complexity and inventiveness needed,
projects of this kind are archetypally completed in stages over some time. For example, to

guarantee that their final product meets all needs, the project team must first design a product
prototype and put it through thorough testing (Tripathi & Talukder, 2023, p.3).
Summarize the project life cycle that will likely follow this project.
Initiation, strategy, implementation, monitoring and control, and completion are the
typical phases of a project's life cycle. They're the ones most likely to be carried out in this
endeavor.
The project is defined, and the resources required are determined at the start phase
(Tripathi & Talukder, 2023, p.2). A project's scope, budget, and schedule are all mapped out
during the planning phase. The duties of a project are carried out, and its progress is monitored
and managed during this phase. The final stage involves a systematic review of all collected data
to evaluate the project's success and identify areas for perfection.
Describe the selection method that has been used to initiate the project.
The choice to move on with the project was reached after carefully deliberating the
project's faces and their level of correspondence with the organization's objectives. Using this
method, the business can choose the project with the highest probability of success and potential
ROI. For instance, the company may determine this is the most profitable project to execute after
considering the schedule, cost, and resources involved.
Identify 2 to 3 of the constraints that the PM will be required to manage.
The PM is accountable for ensuring the project is finished on plan, within budget, and
conferring to the agreed-upon stipulations (Qiu, 2023, p.249). When it comes to meeting limits,
sticking to budgets, and completing tasks as projected, it's the project manager's job to ensure it
all happens as planned. The PM must also factor in external elements, including shifting
customer demands and industry trends and the availability of relevant resources. If the client's

needs change or the market takes a turn, the PM is responsible for adjusting the schedule and
budget accordingly.
Identify at least 5 stakeholders you imagine will be key to the success of this project.
The R&D director, firm president, project team members, suppliers, customers, and rivals
are critical to this project's outcome. The R&D director will steer the ship and see that everything
gets done on schedule and within budget (Tripathi & Talukder, 2023, p.2). The project team will
get direction and assistance from the firm president. Team members will collaborate on creating
and releasing the product. The company's suppliers provide all of the necessary materials and
parts. The buying public ultimately decides the success or failure of a product. And the
company's rivals will serve as a standard against which the project team may measure its success.
Determine the best project structure for this project.
A matrix structure is ideal for this kind of project. Team members in a matrix
organization are divided between the project and the functional departments. In this way, the
project may leverage the knowledge of the functional departments without losing its autonomy.
The project manager may manage more time and resources with the help of a matrix framework.
