1 BLDG 2013 Construction Estimating Week 7 Class Exercise: Tender estimating and build-up rates Name: _____________________ SID: _______________________ Questions 1. Estimate the net cost per square metre for 75 x 25mm T&G Pine strip flooring, cut down, double nailed and punched to ground floor framing given the following information. Materials (supply only delivered to site): 75 x 25mm T&G Pine strip flooring $ 12.00/m 40 x 2.5mm nails $ 25.00/kg Labour: Carpenter award wage $ 35.00/hour Allow 6% wastage on timber cutting and fabrication Item Description Unit Quantity Rate Total Strip flooring Basis: 10m 2 Materials M1 75 x 25mm T&G Pine strip m 179 12.00 2,148.00 M2 Cutting wastage on strip flooring 6% 2,148.00 128.88 M3 40 x 2.5mm nails kg 2.5 25.00 62.50 Labour Direct labour L1 Carpenter cutting and fixing hr 3 35.00 105.00 L2 On-cost on DL 70% 105.00 73.50 Plant P1 Allowed for in Preliminaries Total net cost/10m 2 2517.88 Net cost per square meter 251.79
2 2. Estimate the net cost per square metre for 19mm thick treated particle board flooring nailed and fixed to ground floor framing given the following information. Materials (supply only delivered to site): 19mm thick particle board flooring $ 28.00/m 2 50 x 2.8mm zinc particle board nails $ 29.50/5kg Labour: Carpenter award wage $ 35.00/hour Allow 6% wastage on timber cutting and fabrication Item Description Unit Quantity Rate Total Particle board flooring Basis: 10m 2 Materials M1 19mm particle board m 2 10 28.00 280.00 M2 Cutting wastage 6% 280.00 16.80 M3 50 x 2.8mm nails kg 1 5.90 5.90 Labour Direct labour L1 Carpenter cutting and fixing hr 2.2 35.00 77.00 L2 On-cost on DL 70% 77.00 53.90 Plant P1 Allowed for in Preliminaries Total net cost/10m 2 433.60 Net cost per square meter 43.36
3 3. Calculate the dry material required for 100m 2 of 10mm thick, one coat cement render composed of 4 parts sand to 1 part cement. Solution: In situ volume = 100m 2 x 0.010m = 1.000m 3 Add 1/3 for shrinkage = 1.000m 3 x 1.333 = 1.333m 3 (total dry material) Then cement = 1.333m 3 x 1/5 = 0.267m 3 (dry material) therefore, cement quantity = 0.267m 3 / 0.0265m 3 per bag = 10.06 bags = say 10 bags and sand = 1.333m 3 x 4/5 = 1.066m 3 (dry material) therefore, sand quantity = 1.066m 3 x 1.45 = 1.546t = say 1.55t Therefore, the net amount of dry material (excluding wastage) required to yield 100m 2 of render as specified is 10 bags of cement and 1.55t sand.
