HIS 100 Project Template(1)HIS 100 Project Template
Use this template to address the steps in your Project Guidelines and Rubric. Replace the bracketed text
with your responses. Ensure that you have considered your instructor’s feedback when revising your
work. Proofread the entire document before submitting.
Part 1: Creating a Research Question
1.
Describe how your assumptions, beliefs, and values influenced your choice of topic.
My assumptions, beliefs, and values influenced the my choice of Inequality and Human Rights,
by providing me with an insight on what can alter time and events if this thing and this thing
happened before or after our time. There were multiple events that surround the topic of
Inequality and Human Rights.
2.
Discuss the significance of your historical research question in relation to your current event.
The significance in my historical question of: "What and how has Inequality and Human Rights
changed society today?" This question is going to make you want to go and research: "What
caused Inequality and Human Rights?" There were so many events that took place that are on
the topic of Inequality and Human Rights.
3.
Explain how you used sources to finalize your research question.
Part 2: Building Context to Address Questions
1.
Describe the context of your historical event that influenced your current event.
The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre was one of the most serious instances of racial violence in US
History. During this event, a mod of white people burned the black middle class neighborhood
of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Many of the residents were murdered. The massacre was
part of a race riot by white people who angry when the black people returned home after
World War I (1914-1918).
4.
Describe a historical figure or group’s participation in your historical event.
This riot happened after a Memorial Day weekend after 19-year-old Dick Rowland, was
accused of assaulting 17-year-old Sarah Page. The mob wanted Rowland lynched, who had
been arrested without even giving him his right to due process. At this time, lynching was a
very popular form of terrorism that white people used to frighten and control the black
people. The police refused to hand over Rowland, and barricaded the courthouse to prevent
the mob of white people from attacking Rowland.
Explain the historical figure or group’s motivation to participate in your historical event.
Once in Greenwood, the mob began murdering black residents and burning down
neighborhoods homes and businesses. There were eyewitnesses that said explosives were
dropped from planes flying over Greenwood. The Tulsa police department also played part in
riot. The police department allowed the white mob to gather for hours before they attempted
to break up the crowds.
Part 3: Examining How Bias Impacts Narrative
1.
Describe a narrative you identified while researching the history of your historical event.
[Insert response here.]
5.
Articulate how biased perspectives presented in primary and secondary sources influence what
is known or unknown about history.
1
When it comes to biased perspectives--the age, race, or everyone present--This did not matter
because there would still be others affected by this event. The mob that destroyed the black
neighborhood of Greenwood had everything to do with the attack but what about the whites
who had nothing to do with the mod and became traumatized because of what occurred.
6.
Identify the perspectives that you think are missing from your historical event’s narrative.
7.
If there was missing perspective on this historical event there may be changes. These changes
depend on what that missing perspective is. For example, if someone came forth and tried to
give their reasoning for why they agreed that the black neighborhood of Greenwood should
have been vandalized and rioted the way it did. Why the blacks did not need to have wealth
even.
Part 4: Connecting the Past With the Present
1.
Explain how researching its historical roots helped improve your understanding of your current
event.
By Connecting the historical event and current events, it improves the understanding of the
topic I have chosen. There is still a lot of racism going on in the world today even if we do not
see it often or hear about it--It still happens in present time. A lot has changed since 1921, but
a lot of individuals still are judged and treated differently because of their looks, what they do,
and what they like.
Articulate how questioning your assumptions, beliefs, and values may benefit you as an
individual.
By questioning your assumptions you are willing to dig into the past to find, what exactly
caused certain events to happen and what if they never happened? What if the Tulsa Race
Massacre never happened? Who were the people or historical figures who started Inequality
and Human Rights? Questions that can improve your knowledge on not just history but the
perspective of it all.
8.
Discuss how being a more historically informed citizen may help you understand contemporary
issues.
