Name: Guiding Questions for Western Migration and Removal (Please answer in complete sentences and with your own words) How did the idea of manifest destiny play a role in white American expansion? The idea of manifest destiny played a role in white American expansion by justifying the dispossession and harassment of native americans. Manifest destiny led to the belief that white Americans could best use land and opportunity above other other people, essentially driving the force of racial superiority. Why and how did Florida become part of the US? Florida became apart of the U.S after the American settlers became envious of the land inhabited by Native American tribes and The main reasons of the Florida annexation were, first, anxieties over runaway enslaved people, Spanish neglect of the reason, and the desire to defeat people of the Native American tribes who controlled large portions of valuable farm territories. Instead of attempting to assimilate the native americans they completely “removed” them from the land and reduced land for freedom-seeking enslaved people. Why did the policy of removal replace the policy of assimilation? Jackson believed that the removal of the native americans would fulfill his desires to have a “civilized population[.]” Jackson wanted full control over the valuable farmland in florida. What was Andrew Jackson's role in the removal of the Cherokee? When local settlers were against any kind of agreement with the Cherokee tribes the Adams and Jackson administration were forced to go into “serious negotiations”.
How did the Cherokee tribe try to resist removal? The Cherokee resisted by resiting the treaty of Echota, which asked the Cherokke to relocate to the west, How did Mexico's independence complicate relations between Indigenous peoples and American settlers? The Comanche Mexican Native American tribe kept their power and controlled the economy of the southern western plains. What role did the idea of cultural superiority play in the policies of "Removal" and "Americanization?" The idea of “Manifest Destiny” comes from the desire of racial and ethnic superiority in the U.S government. “Removal” is a formal way of declaring the commiting of genocide against a group of people for simply existing on a valuable piece of land in which they inhabited to begin with. Americanization is a formal way of stating that those who do not match the agenda for American politics need to either assimilate or be completely non-existent for being the way they want.
