Subject - To Start Remote Coding Institute.
I hope this memo finds you well. I wanted to provide you with an overview of the work redesign needed to successfully transition to a remote coding program within our facility. This transition coincides with our current healthcare landscape and the technological advancements we have in place. Specifically, our Electronic Health Record system. Below, I have outlined the areas that need to be addressed and gave my insight on the levels of difficulty associated with each.
A query process would be a feasible area to look further into as it is essential for coders to seek clarification on medical records when necessary. We would have to establish communication channels, standardize query templates, and make sure that coders can collaborate with physicians
and departments remotely. The second area I feel should be addressed is how calls are received within the HIM department. To ensure smooth communication we could set up call centers, making sure coders have access to all needed information and tools. The final area that is worth mentioning is implementing educational sessions whether they be remote or in person. Overall, transitioning to a remote coding program is a feasible and forward-looking initiative while acknowledging our current EHR capabilities. Nidhi Vala
