The Zimmerman Telegram, which played a pivotal role in shaping the course of WW1, also called the Battle of the Marne , was ultimately instrumental in the United States' decision to engage in the war on the side of the Allies. WW1 began after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by South Slav nationalist Gavrilo Princip . Parties involved included the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente . The primary purpose of this document was to encourage Mexico to join forces with Germany by promising them land inside the United States if Germany could defeat the U.S. in the war. The United States joined the war indirectly after the sinking of Lusitania , a British ocean liner, by a German U-boat . The tone of the telegram is assured and assertive, with Germany expressing a belief in their coming victory. However, it also exhibits the desperation of the German government, as they were willing to form alliances with other nations, such as Mexico, to benefit from the war. The Triple Alliance , which included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. During the war, Germany used trench warfare Germany used the Western Front during the war, while the United States used the Eastern Front . The Zimmerman Telegram reveals the strategic alliances that existed during this period. The Victory Garden Poster, on the other hand, had a different motive. The poster uses bright colors and a big, bold font to capture the viewer's attention. It also features a young woman in the field planting, giving off a feeling of patriotism and duty. Through this poster, the government aimed to not only alleviate the stress on national resources but also to boost morale and promote a sense of solidarity
