EDUC5410 Child Development
Portfolio Activity Unit 8
University of the People
June 01, 2023
Prior to this course, I actually did not really place much emphasis on the development cycle of
children, as I never thought of it as an essential element to how we relate to children. I had
connections with children, but that was a long time ago when I did a one-year volunteering in
teaching. Prior to this course, I used knew that child develop in body size, weight and height, and
how they think, how to walk and how to talk, and how to react emotionally to situations. This
course has taken me deep into what I knew before and it has exposed me to new information that
I did not know before, and now I know that I have to approach issues of children at different age
levels and all developmental stages. I am not currently teaching and I don’t have so much.
Assuming I am currently an educator, as a result of my thinking, my professional practice would
have evolved into, is the learner-centered approach.
By emphasizing how the knowledge pupils are acquiring may create solutions for issues or bring
value to a situation, learner-centered schools enable children to take ownership of their own
learning journeys. Young learners will be encouraged to develop into people who naturally look
for methods to create innovative solutions if this is implemented from an early age. I will
encourage learners to actively seek find learning opportunities in the learner-centered approach.
Collaboration with their frequently necessary for this and it is a crucial ability that will be crucial
in the future (All Saints, 2022).
As mentioned, each child (learner) is from a unique background and perspective. With the help
of this model, I will teach kids of diverse ages from an early age that individual differences are
not only acceptable but also something to embrace while attempting to find solutions to issues.
Teamwork is also crucial for the procedure. According to All Saints (2022).If students want to
find a solution, they must learn to debate problems, engage with others, and collaborate. Some
people find it challenging to master this ability as adults, but when it is taught in childhood, the
outcomes are astonishing.
I will use differentiated instruction technique to meet the needs of learners of diverse age ranges,
as it adjusts lessons to match the needs of every learner (
Reading Rockets, n.d.)
. I can use this to
give pupils options for absorbing the material, comprehending the theory, and exhibiting the
knowledge they have acquired, as opposed to teaching the entire class at one degree of difficulty
or utilizing a particular instructional technique. I can distinguish the material pupils need to study
to ensure that their learning needs are met. Some pupils might not be familiar with a lesson's
concepts, while others might already be aware of them. The best activities for pupils to learn the
material will depend on where they are beginning from.
The limitation of what I have learned is that, the child development cycle is complex and one
stage’s knowledge can’t be applied too other stages if the cycle, because children behave
differently through the different stages.
