Module 6 Short Responses – Question 1 Which source will you analyze using active reading strategies? Include the name of the article, the author, the publication, the date, and where you found it.
Read your chosen source using the active reading strategies you learned on the previous
page. Then, summarize the overall meaning and content of the reading. Write your summary below. Your summary should be at least one paragraph long.
https://www.nasa.gov/history/july-20-1969-one-giant-leap-for-mankind/
The article's name is "July 20, 1969: One Giant Leap for Mankind."
The author isn't specified, so that I will write NASA.
Publication is also NASA.
The date is July 20, 2019
I found this source when I was sifting through Google Scholar. There are a lot of great sources and information to be found there. The source talks about the Moonlanding of 1969, which encompasses the Space Race and the
launch of Apollo 11. Throughout the source, you see eyewitness accounts of the events of July 20, 1969, while also seeing summarized descriptions of the launch. There are videos linking the event to YouTube footage as well. It is also important to note that the article was updated recently. Module 6 Short Responses – Question 2 What events or historical forces contributed to the Boston busing crisis of the mid-
1970s? Name at least three, and briefly explain why you think each one was a contributory cause of the Boston busing crisis.
Brown v. Board of Education
When this passed, it was a big deal in the desegregation of Boston as it was deemed that segregation was unconstitutional. The Racial Imbalance Act
This act required schools to desegregate or lose their funding. This was a huge contributing factor as if people didn't begin to accept change; they would lose funding for the kids that already went to the schools.
Desegregation Order
Judge Garritay ruled that desegregation throughout Boston using busing. They would have white students go to predominantly black residential schools and vice versa. It was important to have each race of the younger generation see that segregation wasn't right and that everyone was just people. Module 6 Short Responses – Question 3 Name three specific consequences of the Boston
busing crisis.
Three specific consequences of the Boston Busing Crisis were a decrease in school enrollment, divides within the races, and distrust within the communities.
Module 6 Short Responses – Question 4 Describe one cause of the event you have chosen for your historical analysis (keeping in mind that there are many), and explain one piece of evidence from your research that you will use to support this assertion. Describe one consequence of the event, and explain one piece of evidence from your research that you will use to support this assertion.
Cause of the event:
The Space Race
"July 1969. It's a little over eight years since the flights of Gargarin and Shepard, followed quickly by President Kennedy's challenge to put a man on the moon before the decade is out".
Consequence of the event:
Technological Advancement
"With more than half a billion people watching television, he climbs down the ladder and proclaims: " That one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
