PROJECT 1: TOPIC EXPLORATION WORKSHEET HIS 100 THEME 1 Part 1 Select a research topic area for Project 1 based on which of the following areas interests you the most. You will explore the selected topic a little later in this theme. Mark your selection in the right-hand column. Drafting of the U.S. Constitution Mao Zedong’s Rule Over China South African Apartheid Choose Your Own Topic (The Holocaust) X In the space below, write a short paragraph about what you already knew about the topic you selected prior to this course, based on your personal history or experiences. This may include assumptions, beliefs, or values related to the topic. Be as detailed as possible. The most I know regarding this topic is from what I have learned in high school History classes, it was one of the most discussed topics throughout my educational career. I of course know the most well- known fact, the person who facilitated everything was Adolf Hitler. It targeted the Jews, the gays, anyone who was deemed almost impure to him. My family is also Jewish. I am not Jewish myself but parts of my family are, so this particular topic has always held near and dear to our hearts as it does affect our ancestors. I don’t know their particular names, but I know a couple of my distant relatives were in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. Another source of knowledge regarding this topic is I know the Nazi’s did a lot of testing on twins back in the day, including injections, surgery’s, etc. that left people who survived with long lasting medical conditions. This entire topic is interesting as well as heartbreaking to me, but I continue to learn more about it every time I study it which always keeps me interested in it and interested to learn more.
PROJECT 1: TOPIC EXPLORATION WORKSHEET HIS 100 THEME 1 Part 2 Now that you have identified your topic and described what you already know about the topic, what questions do you still have about the topic that you would like to know? Place your answers in the right-hand column. Identify one question about the topic that you are curious about. What was the effect mentally and physically on twins during the holocaust? Are there any specific cases or interviews on this topic? Describe why this question matters to you personally. This question matters to me because I have close friends in my life who are twins, and friends who have twin children, so I have a particular soft spot for twins. Describe why this question matters to society. I believe this topic matters to society because we often overlook the small things that happened, we know the holocaust happened and that tons of people were murdered, etc. but we often forget the experiments and other things that were done during this time as well. Identify a second question about the topic you are curious about. Who is Elie Wiesel and why is he so significant to the holocaust? Describe why this question matters to you personally. I believe this part of the holocaust is often overlooked and simply not as studied as Anne Frank. We need to become more educated. Describe why this question matters to society. To me I believe society again should just broaden their knowledge on this topic as much as possible. Listen to stories and retellings about all aspects of the holocaust.
