There are two change theories that could be used to help institute prevention strategies to prevent surgical site infections, the Diffusion of Innovation Theory and Lewin's Change Theory. Both of these can be used to implement change in nursing with similiarities to change policies and practice in which different outcomes could be derived. Hussain et al. (2018) define Lewin's Change Theory as a three step process that involves unfreezing, moving, and refreezing. During unfreezing, the need and desire for change is recognized. Moving is the process for implementing the change. Lastly, refreezing is the process of stabilizing and integrating the practice change into the healthcare system. Magalhães Silva et al. (2022) explore how the Diffusion of Innovation Theory enables concepts of practice change to integrate throughout the healthcare system. This theory has been used to introduce new technology, interventions, and procedures whose primary focus is to help stop the occurrence of surgical site infections through the utilization of best practice guidelines. It uses a five step approach versus the three step that the Change Theory does. My preceptor stated she wasn't familiar off the top of her head and would need to perform a search on the theories. When we spoke about the findings, she said she is certain she has included parts of them in the implementation of initiatives. References Hussain, S. T., Lei, S., Akram, T., Haider, M.
