Workshop Summary
Professional learning is of great importance in the field of education. As
an educator, we want ongoing learning opportunities that are beneficial and
relevant for our own students pertaining to our own classrooms. Through the
process of professional development, teachers can learn new materials and
apply what is learned. The topic chosen, of RTI, is beneficial to the
instructional knowledge that is needed in being a teacher.
The PD will take place in the main building cafeteria. There will be about
20 participants from K-4
th
grade. We will be sitting at the cafeteria tables
leaving us room to have our Chrome books in front of us and the teachers will
be seated in their grade levels, for the sharing of information. Chrome books
will be used when we reach the Branching Minds piece of the training.
Educators will be able to explore the platform and create real Tier level groups
and goals for each individual for differentiation.
From my PowerPoint on the benefits of RTI for students at risk for
disabilities in a general education setting, educators at my Professional
Development will be able to define what RTI is and learn the basics of the RTI
process. Through the hands-on experience of exploring the Branching Minds
platform, educators will have the opportunity to become familiar with the
platform and gain experience in creating groups and goals based on real data
that is already input into the system, all the while asking questions and
learning tips from me who has had the prior training into the new platform.
At the end of the presentation, I would like to invite educators to evaluate
the myself and the PD, I am creating a rating scale that can be completed. I
would like for the teachers to come up with one goal that they can focus on,
and this will give me a place to begin when I check in with everyone.
