KIN 4030: Formative Evaluation
Name: Hassan Tirmzi
ID: 1214975
1) What is your motivation in taking this course? What do you expect to get out of this class?
To be honest my motivation in taking this course is that it’s a requirement to complete my bachelor’s
degree in kinesiology.
I have taken a motor learning and control course in Humber college’s fitness and
health promotion program in which we primarily talked about the brain, neurons, and how everything
coordinates with the body in exercise. What I am expecting from this class is to build on the knowledge
we learned from our previous motor learning course in a more in-depth way.
2) Is there anything you feel apprehensive about for this course?
Why?
Something I am apprehensive of in this course is the format of the course. At first, I thought it would be
about motor learning and its correlation to exercise. However, from the first couple of weeks of lecture
content I can see that it is heavy in the theoretical aspects of how the brain works, the defects in some
people, various tests one can use to assess these problems and apply different rehabilitative methods, etc.
This makes me quite fearful of how difficult the assessments will be due to the confusing content and
heavy memorization load.
3) Have you taken any courses that relates to brain and behavior?
Yes, I have taken motor learning and control course in the fitness and health promotion diploma program
offered at Humber before I bridged into Kinesiology. Additionally, I am taking an introduction to
psychology course that kind of relates to motor learning in some respects.
4) What topics are you most interested in learning about? Are these topics currently covered on the
course syllabus?
Do you see any spots where they could be incorporated?
The topics I am interested in learning the most would be preparation and anticipation, decision making,
memory, and learning. These are topics I am highly interested in from the course syllabus because I feel
like they provide me an additional insight into the brain and how the mind prepares for various things
such as exercising, training someone, being in a serious competition, studying for an exam, etc.
5) What do you plan on doing once you graduate from your program?
As of now I have a couple plans and back up plans. My desired plan is that I get good enough grades to
get accepted into a school in Canada that offers a master’s degree in physiotherapy. However, I am aware
that is highly competitive, so I have made backup plans. If I am not able to get into physiotherapy, I will
go for the registered kinesiologist certification, and then my Canadian certified strength and conditioning
specialization certification. This will allow me to get higher paid jobs in the fitness industry and open my
options. As I progress in the fitness industry and get some experience, I will see how it is for a year at the
minimum, while I save up to perhaps attempt to get my masters in physiotherapy abroad.
