Assignment 12 Designing a Program Evaluation
Objective: To gain experience considering the critical elements going into a
program evaluation. Five different programs could benefit from an objective
outcome evaluation. While you may wish to employ a scale or standardized
instrument, all of these programs may also be evaluated by changes in clients’
actual behaviors. Choose one of the topics that follows, and then answer the
questions.
Program Examples
*A peer educator-led eating disorders education and prevention program
*A token economy system in a state psychiatric hospital
*A program to prevent juvenile arsonists from recidivating
*An alternative education program for expelled youth
*A divorce adjustment group for young children
1.) List at least two questions that you think would be important to answer about
this program.
Will the peer- educators be survivors of eating disorders, or just knowledgeable
of them?
How can we teach what we have to without triggering members of the program?
2.) Operationally define your dependent variables. How will success be
determined?
The dependent variables are the members of the program being led by peer
educators on eating disorders. Success will be determined by hopefully
decreasing amounts of eating orders and relapses by educating and spreading
knowledge.
3.) Describe a program evaluation design and methodology for collecting your
data. Be sure to address how the sample is to be selected.
The purpose of the outcome evaluation is to evaluate the program's effects and
results for the participants. Will be carrying out qualitative interviews and focus
groups with the attendees. The program's clientele and those who have attended
for the longest or are almost finished will be taken into consideration when
choosing the participants.
4.) What limitations might your study have?
One potential limitation of the study is the assessment of client fulfillment. The
responses provided might not accurately represent the program's development
and results. People tend to waver during recovery and unfortunately sometimes
fall into withdraws. The selection of the sample is another drawback. Because a
known evaluation is being carried out, the behavior of individuals being observed
may alter.
