2 Abstract AI chatbots are virtual assistants that communicate with users through text-based interfaces on websites, social media, and messaging apps. They significantly enhance healthcare by improving patient care, administrative effectiveness, and symptom evaluation. They provide easy access to medical information, personalized medical advice, and help evaluate symptoms. Chatbots can offer AI-based diagnosis recommendations, assist with appointment scheduling, and provide round-the-clock assistance. This allows healthcare personnel to focus on more complex tasks while ensuring patients receive reliable, consistent advice. The study will focus on the use of AI chatbots and AI-driven virtual assistants in healthcare facilities in Zorzor District. The study will investigate the survival rates of healthcare professionals at Curran Lutheran Hospital, specifically midwives and nurses. The research will involve observation, desk-review, and internet information, using a descriptive survey design and quantitative methodology. The target group includes registered professionals in key departments. The researcher seeks ethical clearance from Phebe-Esther Bacon College of Health Sciences, Zorzor District Health Team, and Curran Lutheran Hospital before conducting the study. The investigator ensures anonymization of data and informs workers of their participation options. Chatbots and AI- driven virtual assistants improve healthcare efficiency and patient experience, but must adhere to privacy and security regulations to maintain confidentiality and trust.
3 Introduction AI chatbots are computer programs that serve as virtual assistants and communicate with users through text-based interfaces on websites, social media platforms and messaging apps. These chatbots can assist customers, respond to inquiries or start a discussion with them ("What is a virtual assistant (AI assistant)? | Definition from TechTarget," 2023). AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants significantly enhance healthcare by improving patient care, administrative effectiveness, and symptom evaluation. They provide easy access to medical information, including treatments, medications, and after-treatment care, thereby enhancing patient experience and overall healthcare efficiency ("How AI-powered chatbots drive customer satisfaction in healthcare," 2023). Chatbots can provide personalized medical advice to patients, helping them understand their medical issues, reminding them of appointments, medication, and lifestyle changes. They can also help evaluate symptoms, assess severity, and determine if urgent medical intervention is necessary ("How AI-powered chatbots drive customer satisfaction in healthcare," 2023). Chatbots can offer AI-based diagnosis recommendations based on user symptoms, but should not replace expert medical advice. They can assist with appointment scheduling, allowing patients to make, modify, or cancel appointments via chat. This can reduce no-shows and improve healthcare administration. Chatbots also provide round-the-clock assistance; ensuring patients have access to information and can make appointments at their convenience. 4 The healthcare facilities in Zorzor District are not an exception to having such equipment for enhancing the medical system. As such, the study will focus on the use of Chatbots and Al- driven Virtual Assistant in healthcare facilities in Zorzor District Research Question 1. Do the healthcare facilities have Chatbots and Al-driven Virtual Assistant in Zorzor District? Hypothesis 1. The existence of Chatbots and Al-driven Virtual Assistant in healthcare facilities in Zorzor District will help reduce work pressure on health workers. Research Setting The study is being conducted in Zorzor District, Lofa County, Republic of Liberia. Design The study will be conducted at Curran Lutheran Hospital in Zorzor District, a private hospital with a staff of around 100. The hospital offers a range of services, including outpatient care, inpatient care, maternity care, surgery, laboratory work, and X-rays. The research will involve observation, desk-review, and internet information, with a descriptive survey design and a quantitative research methodology questionnaire. The study aims to investigate the survival rates of healthcare professionals at Curran Lutheran Hospital, specifically midwives and nurses. The target group includes all registered healthcare professionals at the institution, including those in key departments like the specialty clinic, accident and emergency department, and obstetrics and gynecology. The study will use stratified random sampling to select a sample size of 50% responses, dividing the population into strata based on ranking or position.
5 Ethical Considerations The researcher will ask for ethical clearance from Phebe-Esther Bacon College of Health Sciences. The Zorzor District Health Team and Curran Lutheran Hospital will also approve the study before it can be conducted. The personnel at Curran Lutheran Hospital will be contacted to get authorization after the communication's purpose has been outlined in a draft. The investigator will ensure that any data they view or receive is anonymized and utilized solely for this purpose. Additionally, they will inform the workers of their freedom to decline taking part in the study. Conflict of interest The time shown for the conduct of the research has no conflicting time with other activities that I am engaged with. Results/ Discussion Chatbots and AI-driven virtual assistants have become increasingly integrated into healthcare systems to enhance patient education, symptom assessment, and appointment scheduling. Here's an overview of their roles in these areas: Patient Education: Accessible Information: Chatbots can provide patients with easily accessible information about their medical conditions, treatment options, medications, and post-treatment care. This helps patients better understand their health, empowering them to make informed decisions. Personalized Education: AI-driven virtual assistants can personalize educational content based on individual patient profiles, ensuring that the information is relevant and tailored to specific health needs and conditions.
6 Availability: Virtual assistants are available round the clock, allowing patients to access information whenever they need it, reducing reliance on healthcare providers for routine inquiries. Symptom Assessment: Preliminary Triage: Chatbots can assist in preliminary triage by asking patients about their symptoms and guiding them towards appropriate care. They can provide immediate recommendations for self-care, suggest over-the-counter medications, or advise patients to seek urgent medical attention based on the severity of symptoms. Decision Support: AI-driven virtual assistants can use machine learning algorithms to analyze symptoms over time, offering more accurate assessments and recommendations. This can be especially useful for chronic conditions where monitoring and early intervention are crucial. Integration with Electronic Health Records (EHR): Integration with EHR systems allows chatbots to access a patient's medical history, providing a more comprehensive understanding of their health status and helping in more accurate symptom assessment.
