Amy and class-
Great response! I like how you described the CFI in such de3tail that was easy to understand.
Life experiences and culture have a detrimental impact on clients and how they comprehend
their symptoms and their attitude toward care. The Outline for Cultural is a tool that can
assist mental health practitioners collect information about the client to better understand
how culture is affected and affects mental illness. This information can be incorporated into a
broader mental health assessment, formulation, and care planning. The CFI can be used with
any patient by any provider in any setting. With knowing this the CFI can kick off evaluation to
gather patient’s views and practices first and foremost. Individuals have a tendency to
comprehend their issues in their own way which could be similar or different from how
practitioners may describe the issue. The CFI can assist with focusing on how the individual
understands the problem to reiterate it in a way the practitioner can comprehend. “Following
one’s feelings can mean grounding decisions in a religious or spiritual tradition or in one’s
cultural heritage, for these have a great deal of emotional power and often represent deep
commitments” (Lamanna & Riedmann, 2021).
