Antimicrobials:
Understand the proper use of antibiotic therapy and how appropriate therapy is chosen (based on C&S results).
Recognize the class of each type of antibacterial (ending of drug names)
Recognize common ADR (C diff/candidiasis)
Recognize safety considerations (IV site care, interactions, administration, existing conditions, allergies, cross sensitivity) and contraindications (the major ones we discussed in class).
Plan most appropriate interventions for the client with an infection (obtaining culture, administering antibiotics, evaluating effectiveness of treatment/response to therapy).
Understand terms related to antibiotic selection and therapy (empiric, resistance, sensitivity, prophylaxis, opportunistic)
Dosage:
There are many practice problems in Canvas- Modules: Dosage Practice, 1, 2, and BLUE) Also, practice problems from class are a great review.

Diuretics (side effects, ADR, precautions, contraindications, safety, adequate urine output)
MOA of each drug class (this assists in determining appropriateness for the client’s condition)
Uses for each class (life-threatening ventricular dysrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, etc.)
S/s of toxicity
Conditions resulting in an increased risk for toxicity.
Contraindications for therapy (parameters, COPD, etc.)
Goal of therapy (improved contractility, kidney perfusion)
Nursing clinical judgement for appropriateness of therapy (parameters, labs)
