The velocity of S waves decreases as these waves leave the lithosphere and enter the
asthenosphere. What does this suggest about the strength of the rocks in the asthenosphere compared
to those in the overlying lithosphere?
S waves generally only travel through solids and not liquids, so S
waves can travel through the lithosphere much faster the Lithosphere is a full solid layer of rock, then in
the asthenosphere, it is much slower because the asthenosphere is not completely solid nor liquid, S
waves will travel slower through the asthenosphere.

Because S waves are liquid they cannot pass through the outer core.
