Activity:
You must identify the name of 8 selected sedimentary rocks samples from your kit. To do this, you need
to study the properties of these rocks: texture (grain size, rounding, etc.), composition (clastic particles –
quartz, feldspar – calcite, gypsum, etc.). You will need your course notes as well as the reference
documents on sedimentary rocks (informative text on sedimentary rocks, sedimentary rocks
classification table, and sedimentary rocks worksheets – see “Reference document: section of the Lab
Manual” in Brightspace).
Thus, you must
associate each identified sample number in your kit (see below) with a sedimentary
rock name from the list below
.
We also require that you
fill in and submit the sedimentary rocks worksheets
for the various samples
identified. This will help you, among other things, to make links between the grain size and the energy
level associated with the deposition of these sediments (for clastic rocks) as well as to better integrate
the general composition of the sediments in each of the three categories of sedimentary rocks.
