The rural-urban divide in North America is a complex and pressing issue that has gained significant attention in recent years. In the book " The politics of Resentment", the author asserts that we usually talk about comparisons such as red vs blue while looking at electoral maps but a more significant comparison is between urban and rural (Meckler and Chinni,2014). The rural-urban divide has been a factor in America and Canada since ages arguing various aspects. This divide is considered as one through which politics of resentment can easily operate which is highly consequential for American politics today. The rural community had 3 beliefs that:
Rural areas are usually ignored by decision makers.
Rural areas do not get fair share.
Rural folks have fundamentally distinct values and lifestyles which are disrespected. The demographical changes depict that the urban areas represent the future and the rural areas
represent the past. The author argues that to identify the roots of these interpretations by noticing that the political backgrounds are from rural areas and as the whole system is based on
geography, so the conflict between rural and urban areas should get solved. The research question for this paper will be " What are the main reasons for the cause of rural-urban divide that persists in North America and what are its consequences on economic, social and environment of North- American countries. This paper will look at the statistics on the basics of income, education health and other factors such as employment and environment in urban and rural areas to get a better understanding. This paper will argue that the prospect of this harsher rural-urban division of labour in global economy is due to the social, rural, and economical factors which limits the use of resources. A political scientist, Roger Gibbins the clean, high-tech prosperity of the 'Knowledge economy' is concentrated in urban areas whereas rural areas were limited to local conflicts. The consequences of this divide lead to collision of race and distribution and the ones who were affected more were the rural people and further this moment led to populism. Therefore, this paper aims to present an overview of rural-urban divide in North American countries and concentrating on the significance of managing the issues in order to promote equality and sustainability.
